Deadline reports that Gravity looks set to earn a whopping $55 million at the North American box office this weekend. The movie - which stars George Clooney and Sandra Bullock as two astronaut's lost in space - has been given an impressive 'A-' CinemaScore from moviegoers and is already generating some serious Oscar buzz. For that reason, the studio is predicting long legs for this release. After taking $17.5 million on Friday (including $1.4 million for Thursday 10pm late shows and Friday midnights), Gravity gained a massive boost of 35% on Saturday to earn $23.5 million. It's now predicted that the movie will finish with a total of $55 million; a figure helped by the more expensive 3D and IMAX tickets. It's believed that the budget for Gravity is between $80 million and $120 million. Did you guys decide to check out the movie this weekend?

[Sandra] Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky [George Clooney] in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone–tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

STARRING:

Sandra Bullock as Ryan Stone
George Clooney as Matt Kowalsky

This is an incredible refreshing original film from the mind of the brilliant Alfonso Cuaron.

Not a sequel, not a reboot, not a remake, not a rehash, not a lazy cash in. This is a return to making cinema from passion.

You're doing yourself a disservice by not watching this

Incredible film, blows anything I've seen in the last 4 years out of the water.

Watch this movie last Friday and guess what I watched it again this Sunday. Truly an amazing film that deserves an Oscar.

SlaveMasterFlexXx The story is so good you can watch even without the 3d effects. But to fully appreciate the experience 3D is a must. Please do not miss this film.

It doesn't look terrible. Just cause it doesn't include a pleatora of stars in it and doesn't have a shit ton of gunfire doesn't mean it will be boring. From what I've heard it's quite intense, and it has 98% on rotten tomatoes which is very good

What Comic Book is this Movie based on???

Oh. That's right. It's Not. At ALL.

Just another article, in a looong line of articles, that continue to be about non-CBMs. If this site wants to be Moviehole or something of a expansive nature when covering film, then the name shouldn't be COMICBOOKMovie.com

I'm tired of articles that stretch the premise of covering a certain story and will mention something CBM-related, as if that justifies covering the story.

Ex: The new "Carrie" remake features Chloe Grace Moretz, who was in the Kick Ass films, SO NOW IT'S RELEVANT TO THIS SITE! Read on!!

No. It's not related. That's a pathetic attempt to pad the site with articles and about subjects that are NOT about a CBM.

If they want to do more than just CBM stories, they should have thought about that before dedicating an entire site to JUST COMIC BOOK MOVIES.

And btw, for the record, "Gravity" was effin' BORING. The only thing this deserves in regard to Oscars is for Cinematography. PERIOD.

First THOR, Captain America & Green Lantern did around 65 million!
Those were a comic book established property & were hot summer releases!

So GRAVITY doing 55ish, in October, & an original SciFi film!
Bravo to Alfanso Curan, David Heyman & WB!

I went to see this at my kids request with them> I haven't seen much buzz about the movie, but I was completely grounded with the visual experience. It was simply amazing in the same way the first time you saw Avatar... even better actually. The story is perfectly simple, survive at all cost. An ingenious movie with the best cinema experience of my life. I definitely recommend this to everyone from 9 to 90 years of age. You wont regret seeing this.

I've been holding off on seeing this until I heard from regular movie going people. For me the trailers never did much for me, but Cuaron and sci-fi kept it on my radar. After all the word of mouth I'll probably check it out sometime this week.

When are people going to realize that we all share a common interest in FILM, yes this site revolves around CBM's but with CBM news being as slow as its been (especially this time of year) who cares what articles get posted? It is not your website, and if you dont like the articles dont read them, better yet if you have a problem with the site, dont come here. There are far more people that enjoy these articles than complain about them.

I dont usually go to the movies because tickets and popcorn in one night is too expensive, but for this film, you've got to see it. You dont watch a cinematic event like this on your tv, you see this in the theater.

@BloodRed you are totally right. How is this a comic book movie ? How is this comic book movie related ?

Josh Wilding is just an attention wh*re trying to get hits on his articles. And a hint Josh .. sex sales better.. if you are that desperate start making articles about half naked chicks that just so happens wear some sort of hulk or iron man inspired thong.. oh wait..

Wow, there's a lot of newbies here who don't know that this site expanded a couple years ago to cover sci-fi, fantasy and other related genres of films. Let me guess, you all buy things that need put together...don't read the instructions and then wonder why you are all confused once it doesn't go the way you want it to?

This was a great movie. Despite the story lacking slightly, the visuals are some of the best I've seen in 20 years. It had some of the most intense moments I've witnessed in cinema in a very long time.

The symbolism used was interesting and the realism was just on point.

They deserve anything they get for this film, including some Oscars. Especially for the technical aspects, which were just astounding. I saw it in IMAX 3d and wow.

@BlackJack10 - So, because Clooney was once in a CBM, in 1997!, this gives credence to covering a film he's in, in 2013???

So, by Your rationale, since Joel Schumacher also was involved in the Very Same Movie as Clooney, should this site cover everything related to his career as well?!?!? Dumbass.

And I saw this BORING film WEEKS ago and it was BORING then and I'm sure nothing has changed in editing since then, so it's BORING now. Why would I lie about seeing a movie? I either Did or I Didn't. Ass.

And holy fvckin' Sh!t, you've only been a Member since June 6th of THIS YEAR and you have nearly FOUR THOUSAND Fvckin' Comments!!! 4-0-0-0!! So basically...you just LIVE on this fvckin' site. Wow. It looks like someone has Zero fvckin' Life. And I mean, AT ALL. That is truly amazing. No wonder you're crying about someone criticizing your precious site. It's your only Home.

@MisterNiceGuy - Nah, I'll stay, chump. You with your 1800 Comments. Another Loser! If CBMs are slow, then tough sh!t. What they are doing is creating filler, so as to continue to generate revenue from ad space. I like most types of movies, not just CBMs, but if the NAME of your Site is ComicBookMovie.com, then too fvckin' bad. Stick with the genre that you've chosen. Otherwise, change the name so as to include a wide array of film. You can't have it both ways.

@MexicanSuperman - Ok, 900 Comments....that's pretty sad. Do you actually SEE the Sun? Like, Outside??? - This site used to be, USED TO BE, really good, but it's become a constant flame war of bullsh!t from little girls, mixed with Wannabe Reporters who feel the need to pad their "resume" and give glowing reviews to everything down the pike, so as to likely get perks along the way.
