We all remember the 1990 film version of 'Dick Tracy', and there are very few people who disliked it. It was an amazing movie, and most of us were well aware of the legal dispute between Warren Beatty who played 'Dick Tracy', and the studio Tribune Media. The studio had originally told Beatty that he had until 2008 to make another Dick Tracy movie or tv show and Beatty responded my making a tv-special. Well that wasn't good enough for Tribune and they continued the court battle until now it's official, the rights stay with Warren Beatty giving him the right to make more movies or television shows based on the class comic-strip character.
And for those of you who aren't familiar with 'Dick Tracy' (Shame On You!), here's a brief description of the character.
Dick Tracy is a police detective who is recognized for his trademark yellow fedora and trench coat. He has many skills some of which stemmed from his previous occupations which include, commercial diver, G-Man, Naval Lt for Navy intelligence. He is one of the most determined detectives on the force, doing whatever it takes to solve the case. He carries a gun with which he is an amazing marksman, a wide variety of high-tech wrist watches including ones with two way radios and tv screens, and a built in computer. He used wire taps on phones before real police officers even used them. Dick Tracy has perhaps some of the strangest looking comic-villains in history including 3-D Magee, Blowtop, The Blank, Cueball, and Flattop Jones.
So what do you guys think, would you be up for seeing Dick Tracy return to the big screen? I think it would be amazing to see another Dick Tracy movie, it would definitely have to be set as a period piece though, it just wouldn't work as a modern day movie in my opinion. Do you guys think Beatty would reprise his role? Who do you think would make a good director? Personally I think this has Zack Snyder's style written all over it.
