Forty-something years after Jaws comes a new kind of (completely unrelated) monster shark tale as Warner Bros. prepares to introduce the world to Jon Turteltaub's The Meg.

The upcoming movie, which is based on the 1997 sci-fi/horror novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror, stars Jason Statham as Jonas Taylor, a deep-sea rescue diver who will be tasked with the seemingly impossible task of finding and taking down a pre-historic 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. His supporting cast includes Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao, Cliff Curtis, Jessica McNamee, Robert Taylor, Page Kennedy, Olafur Darri Olafsson, and Masi Oka, amongst others.

Watch the official trailer below:

Plus, check out a pair of new posters:

A deep-sea submersible—part of an international undersea observation program—has been attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct, and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific…with its crew trapped inside. With time running out, expert deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) is recruited by a visionary Chinese oceanographer (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter Suyin (Li Bingbing), to save the crew—and the ocean itself—from this unstoppable threat: a pre-historic 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. What no one could have imagined is that, years before, Taylor had encountered this same terrifying creature. Now, teamed with Suyin, he must confront his fears and risk his own life to save everyone trapped below…bringing him face to face once more with the greatest and largest predator of all time.

The Meg features:
Director: Jon Turteltaub
Jason Statham as Jonas Taylor
Li Bingbing as Suyin Zhang
Rainn Wilson as Jack Morris
Ruby Rose as Jaxx Herd
Winston Chao as Dr. Minway Zhang
Cliff Curtis as James "Mac" Mackreides
Jessica McNamee as Celeste
Robert Taylor as Dr. Heller
Page Kennedy as DJ
Olafur Darri Olafsson as The Wall
Masi Oka as Toshi
Rob Kipa-Williams as D'Angelo
Shuya Sophia Cai as Meiying
Tawanda Manyimo as Marks

The Meg swims into theaters August 10

Surely we deserve a TV show where Jason Statham and Scott Adkins team up and fight crime by punching it in the face.

Also of course I'm going to watch The Stath vs a Giant Shark

Wasn't sure about this movie when I first heard about it, but that trailer has peaked my interest. My only thing is that dog better survive. Jaws already killed one dog by shark, I don't want to relive that traumatic experience again.

The best part was that dog. She wasn't having none of it.

Hopefully, this movie is just an excuse for Statham to wear a speedo.

@Pathogen - That's really him. Statham was a backup dancer in some videos, giving life to fans like me. He's a man of many talents.

This shit looks crazy. I'm loving the fact that monsters movies are having a comeback and i'm enjoying the hell out of it, i'm in for the genre and how crazy and hilarious this looks.

Heck i'm even thinking about on giving Rampage a chance, i was sour towards it but apparently going by reactions it might be fun. Both The Rock and Statham are bit of egomaniacs, Rock a bit more than Jason but i gotta give it to them action movies is their thing. I stil feel that Rock fatigue tho lol, but a giant ass gorilla and a flying wolf could make up for that.

Looks like a good waste of money. Not all movies need to be Oscar worthy.. sometimes you jus wanna go out, have some drinks, eat something and go watch an enjoyable movie... I'll take this in
