STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Star Daisy Ridley Denies That She Is Leaving The Franchise After EPISODE IX

Despite a previous report where Daisy Ridley seemed to imply she was done with Star Wars after Episode IX, the actress has now clarified her comments regarding her future in the franchise...

Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley left fans confused and a little disappointed a few days ago. The actress, who plays Rey in Lucasfilm's newest trilogy, seemed to imply that she was through with the franchise when she had concluded her work on the final installment, Episode IX (due for release in 2019).

"I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films. So in my head, it's three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out," Ridley told Rolling Stone.

Ridley has since clarified her comments with the BBC, saying that she envisioned Rey's story ending in Episode IX due to only having signed up for three films, but she isn't averse to returning after the new trilogy has ended. "When I did sign up, I did sign up for three films and that's where I sort of saw the story ending," she said. "I think everyone has perhaps taken that as me going, 'I don't want anything to do with it' which is vastly untrue because this is awesome."

Of course, this doesn't confirm that Rey will appear in any film beyond Episode IX, but it's reassuring to know that Ridley is open to the possibility.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives in theatres on December 15, 2017.

Daisy shouldn't be back in a staring role for episodes 10, 11 and 12. She could remain a supporting character but they should keep to the Star Wars tradition and have a new trio of characters each trilogy.

Young star who was a nobody before this big break makes stupid comment.

Young star received tons of fan backlash from those who like her.

Young star may not actually realize that there are many who don't care if her character goes away because she is pretty bland so far along with Poe and Finn and Phasma.

Young star backtracks because after this she may be relegated to the Comic-con circuit and be Jake Lloyd or Hayden Christensen.

@411IDSigo - oh come the hell on. Mind you, I'd only heard the summarization before now of "Ridley says she's absolutely done", this article was the first time I saw what exactly her original quote is. You WANT there to be something there if you think you can say so matter of factly that oh yea, she wants to never hear the words Star Wars again after Ep9. Be reasonable. I can very easily see the process in her mind when she originally said that quote, how she was just thinking of things in terms of that particular story having been more or less "completed" by the end of Ep (& technically seeing as how that IS the contract she originally signed). But not necessarily something so emphatic as what I realize others have now made it out to be. Honestly so many fans these days try to make something when there's very little THERE there.

Would prefer if she did not return. Her characters is bland and uninteresting, Finn at least has the idea of being a former Storm Trooper... even if he does nothing with that.

Rey has nothing other than a backstory that people only care about because she is likely an off-spring of the original trilogy characters.

She’s not on the level of the OG’s so I wouldn’t care if I ever saw her again

@Invasion96 - I agree but I'm sure there's an entire generation of 8-10 year olds right now that feel the same way about Rey, Finn and Poe the way I did about the OG's whilst reading the EU novels 15-20 years back.

CaptCoulson - 12/4/2017, 2:27 PM
@Invasion96 - as she's had exactly one movie (& that featured lots of other people) I'm not really sure that's a totally fair argument to make yet lol

I personally hope no one returns for X. This way new characters get to be explored in the Star Wars universe. The universe is very rich and getting to see more of it outside of known species would be nice. I also would enjoy seeing the next trilogy not being a human in the lead. I doubt that will happen, but it would be nice to see the lead changed up.

CaptCoulson - 12/4/2017, 2:26 PM
@BlackIceJoe - well (and mind you I'm not even sure yet if I care necessarily one way or the other) but if NOBODY returns for Episode X, is it even proper to bother calling it Episode X? And I'm not saying the "main" films always have to be strictly Skywalker-related as their primary thru-line, but there's plenty of other people from this new trilogy who could go on. It just seems like if you'd make that kind of departure character-wise, it's best to just call it something else altogether (like how I'm sure Johnson's new trilogy won't have episode numbers)
BlackIceJoe
BlackIceJoe - 12/4/2017, 8:20 PM
@CaptCoulson - I understand what you're saying, but I remember George Lucas talking about going far into the future for ideas for X. Mind you this was a long time ago and he has no say on the series anymore. But I remember him talking about wanting to explore great, great, great, ect, ect grandchildren of the main characters, think Knights of the Old Republic but in the far future.

I personally see no problem with having the new trilogy being new characters, because the spin-offs are one-offs, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I hope she's more like Carrie and Mark when it comes to dealing with the fandom in the years to come and not like Harrison or Alec Guinness
