X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX Director Reportedly Writing Forthcoming STAR WARS Film

Simon Kinberg, director of X-Men: Dark Phoenix and executive producer of Star Wars Rebels, is reportedly writing a script for a forthcoming Star Wars film.

Along with the news that Warner Bros. has set up a female-lead remake of Logan's Run with X-Men: Dark Phoenix director, Simon Kinberg and Hunger Games writer, Peter Craig, it was revealed that Kinberg is penning a forthcoming Star Wars film.

Kinberg is, of course, no stranger to the galaxy far, far away having been a major proponent for Star Wars Rebels, its producer, as well as previously being set to produce the Boba Fett anthology film, directed by Josh Trank, whom he worked with on the poorly recieved Fantastic Four reboot. Due to Trank's on-set behaviour, the Boba Fett film was seemingly postponed or outright cancelled.

It remains to be seen whether Kinberg's project is a Boba Fett film, but with his previous attachment to it and the fact that the film has been rumoured to be in development since before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it is a valid theory. However, the movie could be something else entirely.

Maybe a with his Rebels connection it'll be a live-action take on Ahsoka's story, maybe Obi-wan, or an entirely new character altogether?

Would you like to see any of these rumoured Star Wars anthology films?

Not interested to in Boba Fett, if set in OG trilogy era then I want to see either Obi Wan or maybe something set on the Empire’s side after RoTJ and the power struggle that went on afterwards.

If not in OG era then set it 1000 years before or after.

I don't feel Boba Fett warrants a solo film (give us the Obiwan film, it's what we all want).

I think he would be much better suited to a live action series.

@RivalSpy - To be fair he's had experience working on some of the animated titles. He seems to really like the Star Wars universe more than the X-Men one. That's for sure.

...But this is just a rumor at this point, right? Nothing official?

@Memorator - He's still connected to an upcoming Star Wars movie in the writer position, that's official.

@Nebula - Huh. Alright then, thanks for replying so fast.

Still not trusting Kinberg though. Gotta see Dark Phoenix first.

@Memorator - He's got his name attached to some massive successes, but when they've missed, they've really missed.
He's either one extreme or the other; it'll either be brilliant or devastatingly awful.

@Nebula - That is impressive, though I don't trust him as a writer, still. In Sherlock Holmes and Days of Future Past, he had good company.
In the rest of the movies he was billed as a writer... That's where I just can't trust him.

I mean, I mentioned Red Sparrow yesterday and just mentioned that the story ruined it for me. A good movie has to have a good script, and that's where I just can't really trust Kinberg.

And I actually like X:The Last Stand, Jumper and X:Apocalypse despite their flaws, so there is that.

Isn't he one of the showrunners for Rebels? So it could be worse, right?

Also make it either Obi-Wan, Doctor Aphra, Live Action Rebels, Jedi Knight, KOTOR , Ahsoka orrrr Lando.

I'd say something new but that's what Rian Johnson's trilogy is for.

Funny how everyone on this site is on the fence about Kinberg while he has only received praise and good vibes from people in the industry since he stepped up as director, its just very funny how most of the staff and users here always claim to know more.

@HannibalLecter - I find it odd that people are judging his direction skills when we literally haven't scene him director before (though it's rumoured he shot the Fan4stix reshoots; which were actually some of the best parts in my opinion).

I peronsally think he will do great with Dark Phoenix. He will have years of experience in set wiht the other xmen films, so probably has shadowed people direct.
Plus, I always think having the writer and director be one person is only a positive; he understand the story and what he wants.
He also seems to care a great deal for the film. He insisted a years post-production to work on the visuals effects to perfect them.

@HannibalLecter - I'm not on the fence about Kinberg. I don't like the guy. Maybe he will do great things for the Star Wars universe, but i never want him within 10 ft of an X-Men flick again.

@StormXmen123 - I totally agree with you, especially about the writer and director being one and the same.

Good thing is now that he will make his own X-Men movie we will get his own vision not mixed with Singer's or any of the other directors and see him for his worth.

It's actually a somewhat liberating experience to just not care about certain things anymore.

I'm with @Kyos on this one. Kinnndddaaaa don't care about Star Wars anymore. Not that hated the new films or anything, just no strong feelings one way or the other. But i will be happy when Kinberg has nothing to do with the X-Men anymore. That will *to quote a friend of mine* put a smile on my face.

@TheManWithoutFear - I honestly didn't think it would ever come to this, but I suppose Star Wars (beyond the original trilogy) is now just another movie franchise like any other to me. There's no hate, just a slightly melancholic feeling of indifference. I'm glad a lot people are fully invested in modern Star Wars, but I'm simply not. And that's okay.

@Kyos - The original Trilogy is its own special thing. The rest is Hollywood; even if you're a fan.

I'm up for this. While I see Simon Kinberg as the David Goyer of the X-Men franchise, (he is great when he is working off the story of other people, like Matthew Vaughn's, but he does terrible work on his own at least she it comes to Marvel) if I remember correctly, he wrote some episodes of Star Wars: Rebels that were really good. He clearly has more passion for Star Wars than he does for X-Men and Fantastic Four. So he could be really good for this.

@SisterSunday52 - OH dear God. C'mon. He has a string of terrible movies he's written, from XXX:State of the Suck, Xmen2, Jumper, This Means War, X-Men DoFP, Fantastic Four, X-Men APoc....just terrible.
