Alien Prequel Scrapped, Prometheus Planned

Ridley Scott and Fox have scrapped plans for an Alien prequel. Instead a brand new sci-fi movie called Prometheus is planned, with Noomi Rapace in the lead role..

After hearing various unconfirmed reports on the Alien prequel; titles, cast, plot etc, its all become moot as Fox and director Ridley Scott have decided to kill the project and instead reconfigure the idea for an original sci-fi project called Prometheus.

Noomi Rapace is on board to play a scientist named Elizabeth Shaw, and the second major role of Vickers is apparently being fought over by Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie. Plot details are non existent for now, but here is what Scott and Damon Lindelof(who has worked closely with Scott on the script) had to say..

“While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.”

Lindelof..

"In a world flooded with prequels, sequels and reboots, I was incredibly struck by just how original Ridley's vision was for this movie. It's daring, visceral and hopefully, the last thing anyone expects. When I sat in a movie theater as a kid, feet raised off the floor for fear that something might grab my ankles, I never dreamed in my wildest imagination I would one day get to collaborate with the man responsible for it. Working alongside him has been nothing short of a dream come true."

Sounds like this new project could still be set in the same world as Alien at least. More details are sure to be released soon anyway. Fox has set a March 9, 2012 release date.

i have no doubt it will be great, but it would be epic if scott made more alien films. instead fox decides to rip it off and make something 'original'. [frick] you fox. still i am curious about it.

WTF?!!!!.... Well this is [frick]ed up!!... But interesting at the same time??... If they are still going to base it in the same universe than Alien it could be a pretty interesting movie?!... I hope?

Noomi and Charlize all the way!... No way to Jolie!!

maybe its like a stand alone prequel or sequel to the Alien saga?! That would be cool!

@ Intruder, AlexDeLarge
What exactly did he say that made you think this will be in the same universe? From what I read ("...evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place") this will be completely original.

Not trying to come off like a jerk (if I am), just wondering what made you think that.

Oh. Yea, that made me wonder too for a moment lol. But I ended up telling myself that he meant we'll be able to see Alien's influence on it. Either way, this sounds good to me!

They need to keep churning out the alien vs predator movies. I know they weren't the best, but u still gotta love the two sides brawlin it out.

And enough of the tough woman roles. I get it, women can kick butt too!! Bring in the Rock or Vin Diesel to kick some ass. Wheres the action star of today??

I'm... slightly upset about this. *sigh* Fox had something to do with it, especially when we last heard of low budget cuts. I usually don't say 'blah blah studio sucks blah blah' comments like the rest of the brainless people on here that do, but seriously, this pissing me the [frick] off. Asses!

some of you guys are upset that Scott is on his way to making another sci-fi film other than the old territory he allready covered. Grimm- i dont think JasonX quality will be the product Scott will produce. If anything it will be something new and magnifiscent that will spawn a possible new franchise to blow us away. Isnt it nice Nolan stepped away from Batman to give us Inception. If interest is still there after this new venture for Scott....i'm sure he may still pursue it.
