DARK PHOENIX Director Simon Kinberg To Write & Produce BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Movie For Universal

It's been a while since we had any updates on Universal's long-gestating Battlestar Galactica reboot, but the studio's big-screen take on the seminal sci-fi series has now been given a new lease of life.

THR reports that Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg has signed on to write and produce the project, which has also enlisted Dylan Clark (War For The Planet of the Apes, Birdbox) as producer.

"Battlestar Galactica is one of the holy grails in science fiction, and I couldn't be more excited about bringing something new to the franchise, while honoring what's made it so iconic and enduring," said Kinberg in a statement. "I'm so grateful that Dylan and my partners at Universal have trusted me with this incredible universe."

Battlestar Galactica started out as a somewhat campy, but influential '70s TV series before being re-invented as the politically charged, Peabody Award-winning BSG in 2004. The planned small-screen reboot from Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail is reportedly still in development.

This new feature adaptation is expected to introduce new takes on the likes of Adama, Apollo, Starbuck and those fracking Cylons, but specific plot details are still under wraps.

What do you guys make of this news? Do you think Kinberg is the right man to bring the crew of the Galactica to the big screen?

@Humperdink -
I was thinking the same thing. Literally thousands of talented people can’t get a break and this guy puts a candle in a terd and calls it a birthday cake and the studio gives him a few hundred million to make a movie about it
