Charlie Hunnam Not Returning For PACIFIC RIM Sequel

Charlie Hunnam Not Returning For PACIFIC RIM Sequel

Rumored to be titled Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, the sequel won't be featuring one of the lead actors from the first production. Does that mean Rinko Kikuchi's Mako Mori and the Gypsy Danger are out as well?

At SDCC, Charlie Hunnam spoke to Yahoo! Movies to promote Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, but the former Sons of Anarchy star was also asked whether he'd be joining John Boyega for the follow up to Pacific Rim.  Apparently, we won't be seeing an appearance from Raleigh Beckett even though he saved the day and ended the Kaiju War.  Hunnam's absence also calls into question whether the other lead from the first film, Rinko Kikuchi, will be returning?  With Boyega playing the son of Idris Ebla's Stacker Pentecost, it would stand to reason that an appearance from Stacker's adopted daughter would be warranted.  Plus, fans from the first film will be dying to know whether Mako and Raleigh made it as a couple!

Charlie Hunnam's Accent Not Returning For PACIFIC RIM 2

Yay

I dunno, it's not that great on Sons of Anarchy either but he didn't even try for Pacific Rim.

@TheSoulEater - I HOPE SO.
I hated Hunnam's character in Pacific Rim, movie needs a more likeable protagonist.

Tbh i was WAY more interested in Mako's character, her character arc was interesting

Wasn't a source of praise the fact that they didn't end up as a couple, because the film didn't see the need to? Of course fans weren't "dying" to know about that, it's much more meaningful if they're not.

Mako was far more interesting than his character anyway. As long as she returns I'm good.

I unabashedly LOVED Pacific Rim. The hate for the film absolutely astounds me. It's the one time in my life that I cannot, for the life of me, get the criticisms against a film. Normally, I may end up loving a film that's not widely well regarded, but I understand why people may not like it (Case in point: Tron - Legacy) but Pacific Rim, to me, was a truly spectacular film.

With this kind of film it is easy to write him out. It will be a Boyega movie this time around. Hopefully he has a badass speech like his old man.

@mcminnjb1990 - is he playing Elba's son?? Hmmm kinda weird his old man never mentioning him....same back story as Creed maybe? He was honestly the worst thing about the new Star Wars for me. His action was terrible
