The Honest Trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong has arrived, and if you happen to be a more "sensitive" fan of the MonsterVerse, you might want to turn away now.
As you'd expect, the human action comes under fire in a big way, with most of this video devoted to pointing out how awful their dialogue was...and how little they brought to the movie. Honestly, it's hard to disagree with anything they say.
On the plus side, the epic action scenes are praised, even if, as they point out, poor Kong spent more time on his back in Godzilla vs. Kong than Reily Reid (some of you are sure to get that reference).
Something the trailer doesn't really mention is how Lance Reddick's role went from a major part to a cameo (there was also no sign of confirmed cast members Jessica Henwick and Zhang Ziyi). Talking to Games Radar recently, director Adam Wingard addressed Reddick's reduced role.
"Originally, Lance’s part was a little bit bigger as he plays the Monarch director, he’s running the organization," Wingard explained. "There was a scene earlier in the film, a big board room scene where they’re setting up the mission. He had a larger role, but ultimately we didn’t need that scene, we changed a couple of plot details during the editing process, so that earlier stuff got cut. Now, that stuff just counts as a fun cameo. He is still top credited, it’s still part of his contract. It’s funny because he shows up in the opening credits and then turns up for four lines, maybe three, in the movie ultimately."
