GODZILLA MINUS ONE Trailer Promises Carnage And Chaos As Toho's King Of The Monsters Is Again Unleashed

Toho has released the first trailer for Godzilla Minus One, and for those of you underwhelmed by the MonsterVerse's approach to the legendary kaiju, this looks like a return to form for the iconic beast.

2024 will see the release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, but Toho has its own movie on the way featuring the King of the Monsters: Godzilla Minus One.

The first trailer for the movie was released earlier today (via SFFGazette.com) and it arguably looks better than each and every one of the MonsterVerse movies produced by Legendary Pictures. The newly released footage offers a much better idea of what fans can expect and what little we see of the kaiju is absolutely awesome (or should that be roar-some?).

Toho's first Godzilla movie since 2016's Shin Godzilla, one of that movie's VFX artists, Takashi Yamazaki, will take the helm of what sounds like an epic new entry into the long-running franchise.

"Postwar Japan has lost everything. The film depicts an existence that gives unprecedented despair," Yamazaki recently revealed. "The title Godzilla Minus One was created with this in mind. In order to depict this, the staff and I have worked together to create a setting where Godzilla looks as if 'fear' itself is walking toward us, and where despair is piled on top of despair."

"I think this is the culmination of all the films I have made to date, and one that deserves to be 'experienced' rather than 'watched' in the theater. I hope you will experience the most terrifying Godzilla in the best possible environment."

While many fans would love to see a Legendary/Toho crossover, this take on Godzilla is completely separate from what that studio is working on. Legendary's upcoming projects include the aforementioned Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and an Apple TV+ series we recently discovered is titled Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

"Set in a post-war Japan," reads an official description, "Godzilla Minus One will once again show us a Godzilla that is a terrifying and overwhelming force. The concept is that Japan, which had already been devastated by the war, faces a new threat with Godzilla, bringing the country into the 'minus.'"

Godzilla Minus One is the 37th film in the Godzilla franchise, Toho's 33rd Godzilla film, and the fifth film in the franchise's "Reiwa" era. It's set to be released in Japan on November 3 and will be unleashed in U.S. theaters on December 1.

The detail of this Godzilla reminds me of Art Adams’ Godzilla. Also, nice touch on the physics of the boat being thrown across the yard. This looks like a good one

@UniqNo - to each their own.
I liked both for what they are.

That does seem neat but shitting on the MonsterVerse was both unnecessary and merely subjective.

If the movie ended with Godzilla wiping out humanity, that would be exceptional!

Looks good, but goddamn it sounds like it’s gonna be a bummer. I don’t want to cry from a Godzilla movie

I love Godzilla. Been to Toho studios in Japan. G-fest, you name it. Usually the Toho movies are goofy and terrible CGI. Shin (thought I didn't like his design) was good. This looks AMAZING!

Lets hope they keep it a little grounded and not introduce a mega power zord robot or psychic tiny women.

These feels more like the scary Godzilla, like the original and 84. Post war Godzilla that never forgives Japan? It sets a precedent for sequels why he's always coming back for more. Also it looks like they nuked him and he's still coming. Little do they know, radiation is his kink! Like Duke Nuke'Em

Shin Godzilla was great but it was 85% board room talking, it's budget restraints but there are some of my favorite moments in the entire series from Shin, the score is my favorite part.
