GODZILLA VS. KONG Producer Comments On The Longevity Of The Franchise; Could It Continue Past 2020?

With Godzilla: King of the Monsters hitting theaters in May, the MonsterVerse has become an unlikely but successful blockbuster franchise. Could it continue past Godzilla vs. Kong? More past the jump...

The MonsterVerse has always seemed limited in its timeframe and what the properties it encompasses are able to do. With Godzilla: King of the Monsters pulling out all the stops within the kaiju side of the equation, Godzilla vs. Kong has been viewed by many the final stop for the franchise.

With no announced plans following that movie up to this point, it was assumed this was the case.

Talking to Toho Kingdom, MonsterVerse producer Alex Garcia suggested otherwise, suggesting that they're taking a one at a time approach. Rather than annoucing a whole phase of films prematurely, the producer is willing to see what works and what doesn't going forward.

When asked if it if there could be movies post-2020 he had this to say:

We take it one movie at a time. We're working with Adam Winguard, working toward Godzilla va. Kong, but the right now the focus is all on [Godzilla 2] . . . It's one brick at a time. There's obviously a goal of what we want the whole thing to look like, but each piece has to be as good as it can be. Could there be? Yeah, that's the hope if the movies turn out really well.

Are you excited for Godzilla: King of the Monsters?

This franchise will suffer the same fate as the Jurrasic World franchise. It will become tired. They are doing a good job so far (although calling a film Godzilla vs King Kong is a very bad idea) but there is not a lot of places they can go with it. In fact they are probably shooting themselves in the foot since Ghidora is the most powerful Godzilla enemy, even moreso than Kong. So anything after will be anticlimactic.

@Forthas - Are you kidding? The title 'Godzilla vs King Kong' is guaranteed butts in theatre seats.

"One brick at a time"
That's the way to go, and i'll be there to support these as long as ya'll keep the good stuff coming, as well as with great stories and characterization for them kaijus. I've truly enjoyed and loved the first two entries and by the looks of KOTM, it seems like it will take the idea of this Monsterverse to another level.

Now can ya'll gimme a third trailer? G14 and Kong had 3 trailers, let's keep that tradition lol. And put it in front of ENDGAME.

I’m completely confused where you go after Godzilla vs Kong considering they are bringing out all the big guns for King of the Monsters but I’ll be there for it. Big monsters fighting each other is enough for me.

@TheUnworthyThor - They can adapt all sorts of Kaiju from Tohos library

@ArkhamKnight195 - Yes and I’ll gladly see them but I can’t help but feel that any film will feel smaller than the next two.

If they move on with some more movies, they could go so many ways with MechaKing-Ghidorah,Destoroyah and even Gigan or Orga.

If they got the chance, i really hope they tackle Biollante, Biollante lends itself for such great and emotional storytelling if done right.

As long as there's great creativity (and minds to accomplish them), stories shall keep coming in regards of fantasy and sci-fi i feel.

After Godzilla beats Kong (because you know he's gonna win) I wanna see this:

@L0RDbuckethead - Ghidora is a greater foe! Godzilla needs help to beat Ghidora. He beat Biollante the same way he beat the MUTO. I would certainly watchi it but it would be anti-climactic!

@Forthas - Then you do know that Biollante had plant, Godzilla, and human dna which he/she becomes this beast.

Then Destroyah the oxygen destroyer

Planet X villain's, giant mechs/robots, Atlantis taking over the world with Megalon/Gigan we can go on and on. But Godzilla has plenty of bad guys to make a series.
