On the heels of the news that Naomie Harris (28 Days Later, Skyfall) has been nominated for an Oscar for her supporting role in Moonlight, THR reports that the British actress has now signed on to play the female lead in New Line and director Brad Peyton's '80s video game adaptation, Rampage.

Though the name of Harris' character is not revealed, we do know she'll be playing "a geneticist with a moral streak."

The trade also provides some plot details:

"Like the video game, the film will feature three creatures - a monstrously transformed gorilla, crocodile and wolf - who wreak havoc on North American cities and landmarks. Johnson is, naturally, an animal-loving hero who is the world’s only hope."

Rampage is set for release on April 20, 2018.

Straight disaster porn movie im guessing... Scientifically tested animals escape and go on a "Rampage." Only person who can stop them? Of course it's The Rock!

@Kman - Yep. But if it doesn't take itself seriously (at ALL) it might be fun.

@RorMachine - you mean you don't want it to be dark?

@Kman - Yeah but I mean, do you really want Kubrick's Rampage? Nah, I want full Michael Bay action, destruction, loud noises, stress relief. A cathartic film. Not every movie needs to be a critical darling, they just need to be what they are and succeed at that. I mean, that is why the MCU is so successful, isn't it? Cause they don't pretend to be what they're not. This shouldn't either and should amp it up a few notches.

@Yaf - I was just kidding about the dark thing... The only way the movie works is your scenario, I agree

They should do a scene where one of the huge animals destroys PETA's headquarters

I liked Moonlight. It's a biopic about Nomis.

She killed it in Moonlight. Hopefully Rampage is decent. The combination of critical acclaim and more mainstream recognizability could help to elevate her status and get her even more big roles.
