With Pacific Rim 2 currently in pre-production, and set to start filming this November in Pinewood Studios, located in Toronto, Global News has learned and revealed the film's working title, which is Maelstrom! Any hints in there? Well, if you read it, and go on with your day, not at all. But, if you look up the term, you'll find some clues!
But hey, to save you the time, let's investigate this together! The definition of the term Maelstrom, refers to "a powerful whirlpool in the sea or a river," or "a dangerous area of water that moves very fast in a circle." Now after watching the end of the first film, you'd know that the protagonists of the film seemingly destroyed the alien's portal, and saved the world. Now if this working title has anything to do with the film, Mako and company saving the world was most likely not the case. And with Del Toro confirming at SDCC '15 that this film takes place about two years after the first one, anything is possible at this point.
