RUMOR: Is A New MATRIX Trilogy Coming From The Wachowskis?

According to Latino-Review, The Matrix creators/directors, Andy and Lana Wachowski, have begun writing a new Matrix trilogy for Warner Brothers. Hit the jump to share your thoughts.

To quote from the Wachowskis: "You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes." Seems they chose to take the red pill and will see how far the rabbit hole they can take The Matrix franchise. After making the 1999 groundbreaking masterpiece, they followed it up with two underwhelming sequels, The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003). Since then, they've gone on to make some ho-hum films: Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas and the upcoming snooze-fest, Jupiter Ascending. Time to see if they can milk The Matrix fans three more times.
We’ve been told that the Wachowski’s have already started the writing process with early treatments and outlines already turned into the studio. No word if they will want to direct but my money says “Claro que Si!”. Warner Bros. is desperate for a surefire franchise and will be making a push to have the new Matrix films ready to up against any new Star Wars and Avatar films by 2017.

So the big question, will Mr. Anderson be back? Who knows!! One of the early outlines was about the birth of the Matrix and now that WB is Terminator-less, some of suits would like to explore that early world but it’s way too early and the story is still very fluid. I’ve been also told to that the previous animated Matrix films will not have any effect on the live action movies.

The first film is a complex story that aspires to mythology, focusing on a computer hacker named Neo (Keanu Reeves) who searches for the truth behind the mysterious force known as the Matrix. He finds his answer with a group of strangers led by the charismatic Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne). What they encounter in confronting that truth makes for a lightning-paced, eye-popping thrill ride of a movie. The Matrix is packed with stunning fight scenes (choreographed by accomplished Hong Kong director Yuen Wo-Ping), astonishing visual effects, quotable lines, and a memorable supporting cast (led by Carrie-Anne Moss, in her first major Hollywood film). The Matrix Reloaded sequel delivers added amounts of everything that the first film had, with the exception of surprises. We see more of the "real world" in the last human city of Zion and we go back to the 1999-look urban virtual reality of the Matrix for more encounters with artificially intelligent baddies and--the real reason you're watching—there are a lot more martial arts superheroics. This is just part one of a story that spans two sequels, with the final film of the trilogy, The Matrix Revolutions, required to tie up the story and sort out a great deal of plot complexity.

Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, Gloria Foster

How about making a DC Comics franchise instead. I think another franchise would be the Dark Tower series. How about the book series Rifts. There is so many better properties then another Matrix. How about a Deadlands movie or a Robotech movie series instead.

Even the own [frick]ing creators forgot what the first film was about. It was about powers taking over the people and the resistance fighting back... Wake up to the truth and realize what our governments are doing, fluoride in the water, chem. trails and GMO's; Trying to kill us.

It's sequels were bland and a new trilogy would officially kick the bucket.

tony@ exactly

Maybe they want Matrix to be their Star Wars and DC universe to be their Marvels universe but if they are making this because they have no confidence in the DCU than go [frick] yourselves WB.

Matrix is a great concept, I hope they get some real talent involved. I actually would like to see more Matrix films. OBviously not as awful as Reloaded or Revolutions, but you get the idea.

I wouldn't mind it actually. They have to make something to take the bad taste out of my mouth from the last 2 Matrix movies because I loved the first one so much.

Another series that would be better then another Matrix is the Wheel of Time series. It could be WB's next LOTR type movie. You could also do the Lovecraft series that Del Toro wants to make starting with At the Mountains of Madness.

SOME STUFF HAS BEEN WAY TOO DEEP..I GET THAT, BUT THEY NEED TO PLAY THEIR STRENGTHS-ANIME-VIDEO GAMES-ACTION..THEYRE GOOD WITH VISUALS. GREAT STORIES BUT SOMETIMES THEY GET WAY TO DEEP.

Geez I find it hilarious when people assume that just because WB is making other movies means that they won't be making DC ones. Just because we don't know what WB is doing with DC doesn't mean that WB aren't doing anything with DC! We have heard time and time again that WB have a plan, we just don't know the plan. I hate CBM sometimes...ugh.

A rush job?

No my friend, it took 4 and a half years to get those sequels. I remember cause I waited everyday for that garbage and it turned out to be just that.

Trash and Trash Reloaded.
