Spoilers! More Info From Leaked ROBOCOP Script

The script to Jose Padilha's Robocop remake has found it's way online, and into the hands of someone with a much more positive view of the material. You are warned, there are lots of spoilers.

The Robocop script has leaked online, and opinions seem to be mostly positive even though just last month HitFix's Drew McWeeny gave it a thorough bashing. One of the opinions that was most insightful and provides the most detail comes from SHH's Solidus.

Drew said the satire was missing, but Solidus had a completely different view, calling it "very satirical." It was actually a feature in the script that he was "most impressed" with. He felt as though this Robocop had more similarities with Neill Blomkamp's sleeper hit, District 9. This Robocop will actually start off human and slowly begin to lose his humanity, becoming a cold machine. That would make Robo very much like District 9's Wikus (Sharlto Copley), as he too slowly transformed but in that film it was into an alien creature, a Prawn.

ROBOCOP'S UPDATED TECHNOLOGY
He moves quick. At first as Robo 1.0 he is somewhat slow. But he does move fast, he can run up to 30MPH and catch bad guys pretty quick.
............................................

Other things, that I love is just the whole integration of wi-fi and how he is connected to everything. This is truly Robocop remade for the modern world, not the 80's.
............................................

I have said before I love the virtual evidence world he creates and re-creates a crime as it happens. I love how he is connected to every camera in the city and they are everywhere.
............................................

There is also a motorcycle that is made specifically for him, it sounds pretty cool, it connects to him in a way. So he mainly drives his Cruiser motorcycle thing.

ROBOCOP IS A TRANSFORMER?
And people should not worry about the "Transformers" aspect, all that changes is the appearance of the texture of his armor and helmet, nothing more. He has a visor but it is more see through.
............................................

Yea the armor just changes to different textures/slight bulkiness. But it makes it sound like in the script in many scenes that it transforms very very quickly. No body changing or arms becoming something else kind of stuff.
............................................

He starts out more human, but OCP starts to mess with him and take away his emotions and he becomes very cold like the Robocop we know.

The story does resolve around that they need Murphy he is the perfect candidate but they know he won't agree to it. So they hire bad guys to pretty much knock him out and "surgically" blow him away so they can get program under way. And also make Murphy's wife think that it is the only way to save Alex is to do this program and he will still be the man she loves. But lets say the company really back stabs that and then some. They just want a cold robot that does what it's told but give the appearance to the press and public that he can have emotions. They set up the whole family wanting him back thing to give it a good clean image. But in reality the company is being horrible about it.

One emotional part that turns him more to a machine (which is what the company and Norton wanted) was when they showed Murphy what was left of "him" they strip all his mechanical stuff and it is just some of his organs part of his head and a part of his brain. A pretty sad scene, especially when they make Murphy's wife look at it, to get her to run away from wanting to still be with Alex.

...Spoilers End...

Actor Kevin Jochim's audition for two roles in the film, Senator and Mayor. Most of Kevin's work has been on the stage, but you may recognize him from Law & Order, where he did a couple episodes, or as Richard Nixon in the film, She Hate Me.

RoboCop will be directed by Jose Padilha and star Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) in the lead role of Alex Murphy/Robocop. The film also stars: Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Kenneth Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel and Abbie Cornish. The remake will be in theaters August 9th, 2013.

Hmm...I've never had any problem with the "transforming" aspect; and, yes, those details sound fine to me. And, so...this really is an updated version of RoboCop, technology-wise - should bring some interesting visual concepts, although I'm not really sure if I can easily move away from the classic bulky, slow-moving Robo.

Yeah, well...let's not talk about the story; but, I don't know what to think about it, either. Sounds like part mess, part brilliance. I'll have to see more first, I guess.

The District 9 similarities part is definitely a great thing to me - as a matter of fact, actually, I've always thought that the reboot MUST be similar to that movie in terms of tone, style, et cetera - but...yeah, I'm not yet 100% about the rest. We'll see.

That wasn't that massive of a spoiler. But I would ruin it for you...okay, I will. Robocop, Terminator and Short Circuit team up at the end segwaying into a Robo Roundup movie. The coolest part is that you get a sneak peek and the ultra secret Big O project as he will be a fourth member of the Robo Roundup.

Robots! Roundup!

you cannot top this and theres pretty much a zero chance of them living up to this level of violence. I'm sorry but there are just films that should never be remakes

It might be ok, besides I would like to see a fast moving Robocop for a change as long as he doesn't look too much like Ironman.

That scene is so brutal. I couldn't forget it the first time I saw it many years ago. I honestly felt horrible for murphy. I hope they don't try to do more just for the sake of trying to top this. The remake sounds promising and I like the talent involved. This might surprise ppl.

Why do a post that clearly says SPOILERS in the title only to show some and hide the "massive spoilers" my iPod won't let me see the highlighted area. If people are that stupid to click an article that says spoiler!! and get pissy when they accidentally read it than so be it. Jus sayin.

i got the feeling that drew mcweeny didn't really know what the word satire meant, in fact im gonna take a look at what i posted last week after his take on this script, because i feel like there were several words i don't think he knew how to properly use - or that he didn't know what they meant.

and this isn't the first time.

i'm not sure how the guy has had such a successful career, because he often struggles with word meaning and proper usage. i realize it's just internet film/pop-culture journalism, but it's still journalism & mcweeny is one of the key people who makes the lot look bad.

Back To The Future remake? No. But given that we're just 3 years away from the year Marty visited in the second film, there might be some room for a sequel that explores why the world we live in today isn't the world Marty saw in BTTF 2. All that time travel has really messed up the time line and we have ipads instead of hover conversions.

"Nuke. Where ... is it... MADE? Where ... is .... KAAAIINE?!" I'm on board for this. I think Robocop is one of those films that's okay to remake.

If you want to see something really cool though, type in "Knight of the Machines" on Youtube. It's a fan edit (damn good too) where Robocop is partners with K.I.T.T. Blew my mind. Then of course there's that fantastic Robocop vs Terminator fan edit by AMDS. Great stuff. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.

Ok now this sounds better then how they had said the movie was gonna go before. I like how they are gonna portray OCP as the S.O.B's they are and were in the original, but looks like they are taking it further with them messing with Murphy and his emotions as well as showing him wats REALLY left of him that seems to drive him over to edge of fully letting go of being human. As with DREDD, i think ill give this movie a shot :]
