3 of 5 Stars... But thumbs up

Cadet to Captain of the flagship in a week? I sure can't give it 5 stars based on the ending alone.

While it does set up for future movies, The premise of a a 3rd Yr. cadet skipping 1/2 a dozen ranks and hundreds (perhaps thousands) of other command officers and given command of the new flagship.

Remember the bulk of the fleet was elsewhere in the galaxy and could not respond to the Romulan attack. Lots of other senior officers would have been ahead of young Jimmy. Saving Earth would still have gotten him posted as an Ensign or maybe they'd have jumped him to a J.G.... but Captain, gimme a break.

Another nit. All of the characters were pretty much true to the original series cast save one...Scotty. He was always the most squared away officer of the bunch (unless he was boozing) why change his character here. While this character was funny and got a classic "Scotty line" in, he wasn't at all like James Doohan.IMO

A little too much of an action shtick movie. sticking with 3 stars and a thumbs up.

It's a whole new space/time line, I guess anything goes.
