Quentin Tarantino's STAR TREK Film Plans To Feature The J.J. Abrams Cast, According To Zachary Quinto

When Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek film was first announced, fans were caught off guard by the unorthodox choice. The filmmaker, who has made his name directing relentlessly violent genre fare with unique and tense dialogue, is one of the most revered figures in Hollywood. It is no denying that a Tarantino movie set in the Star Trek universe would get a whole lot of people back into theaters after the sub-par box office performance of Star Trek Beyond.

Recently, on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock, commented on his potential involvement in Tarantino's vision.

You know, until deals are done and contracts are signed and schedules are cleared, nothing is set in stone, so anything can happen. My understanding is Quentin had this idea and they were shaping it and forming it and he is off to do his Manson movie. And it would be after that, that [the 2009 cast] would go maybe do one with him. Which is pretty exciting, pretty cool.

Before today there was no indication of when and where in the vast Star Trek universe this film would take place, but after Quinto’s remark fans now have a vague idea of what the movie will be. This reveal now begs the question, would it have been better to tackle a wholly original Star Trek story instead?

Tarantino has made/written some truly amazing films and stories. I am not a fan of everything he does, but he has a really unique way he uses film to tell a story and has a u inquest way of writing stories as well. Whether or not I like one of his films, I always appreciate his passion and individuality.

That said, I really Wonder about this project. At first, I thought that it is a bad idea for him to take previously established characters in a previous established universe that has very specific previously established rules and lore. I felt as though he should just do his own “Star Trek-like” project from scratch and leave Star Trek alone.

However, I wonder if it would be even more interesting for him to try and do a project within the confines of this Star Trek and see what he can do if he would try and make a more “normal” film. That might be the bigger challenge for someone like him and might lead to him flexing different creative juices that are outside of his comfort zone.

I now kind of hope the latter happens.

It all seems really odd from the outside, but will surely be an interesting project one way or another. Even a Tarantino film than he did not direct (From Dusk Till Dawn, True Romance, are bonafide Tarantino flicks through and through).

Wait...Quentin is officially doing this? Must have missed the confirmation.

I absolutely love the trilogy...but am not a major fan of QT as much as others. Definitely going in with an open mind, but wish it was someone else doing it.

@Menks123 - He wrote a story but isn't writing the final script himself (as far as they have explained it so far). Certainly seems to be no intention of him directing it either way.

@MosquitoFarmer - Ohh ok, thanks for that info. That makes more sense, because I feel i'd remember him actually getting confirmed directing lol.

Blood, gore, and violence is what's missing from the Star Trek series. I think this is what's needed to separate itself and lead all sci-fi movies. Stop making movies for kids and give us a really true good flick.

Would love to see someone like Tarantino (apparently a big Star Trek fan) adapting the classic 'City on The Edge of Forever' for the big screen.
What could possibly go wrong?!

I honestly don't know what to think about a Tarantino directed Star Trek movie. It's just such a bizarre match up of film franchise and director. I really can't even begin to try and envisage what it would be like. I hope it gets made purely so I can see what a Tarantino Star Trek film looks like.
