Surprisingly, there has been a lot of movement on a Star Trek Beyond sequel as of late. Not to be confused with the Tarantino-produced film, this direct sequel has recently recruited director S.J. Clarkson for the science fiction franchise.
What fans know about the film so far is very minimal. The sequel will reportedly have two prominent female villains. Earlier this week news had spread claiming that Paramount is courting Danai Gurira in an unknown capacity. It is easy to speculate that the Black Panther actress may be filling one of the two antagonist roles.
According to That Hashtag Show, production on the film will commence early 2019. Directed by The Defenders' S.J. Clarkson, the movie will be produced by J.J. Abrams featuring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, and the rest of the Kelvin crew. It has also been heavily imply that Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as Kirk’s father from the 2009 reboot. This start date sets the film on target for a spring 2020 release, around 4 years after its predecessor.
