Zachary Quinto Getting Into "Spock Shape" For Star Trek Sequel

Zachary Quinto caused quite a stir recently by revealing the nature of his sexual orientation. Something that may get lost in that media storm is the fact that Quinto will soon begin acting in J.J. Abrams Star Trek sequel, where he will have a "major action scene."

Speaking to LA Times HeroComplex, Quinto stated the following:

“There’s a big sequence for me that I have to prepare for in this movie physically so I’m training, working on getting in some serious shape, building my cardio endurance, preparing to run a lot,” Quinto said.

Quinto went on to acknowledge the shift in Spock's character from Leonard Nimoy's portrayal. “One of the climactic scenes for me in the first movie was when I go against that grain and lose my cool and beat up Kirk. So I think they’re trying to change that up a little bit and not have him be just intellectual but also have another side.”

Comic books and science-fiction roles apparently what he invisioned for his acting career. “I never would have anticipated sci fi factoring so prominently in my career,” Quinto said. “It was not a genre I spent a lot of my own time immersed in. Comic books was not really my bag. I’m grateful for it. I come from a theater background. That’s how I learned to act. There’s something very theatrical about the world of ‘Heroes,’ of ‘Star Trek,’ so it was an easy fit for me. It was comfortable, more on the basis of technique than content…. But to be so closely associated with one of the most iconic characters in the history of sci fi, I have to work a little harder against that expectation.”

The film's major cast members have signed on for two sequels. J. J. Abrams and Bryan Burk will produce, and Abrams will direct. When speaking on the alternate reality established in the 2009 film, Abrams commented that it would be "ridiculous to not be open" to ideas like resurrecting William Shatner's James T. Kirk or recasting Khan Noonien Singh. Orci and Kurtzman explained the dilemma for the sequel was whether to pit the crew against another villain, or to have an "exploration sci-fi plot where the unknown and nature itself is somehow an adversary". On 2nd of October 2011 it was confirmed by screenwriter Roberto Orci that location scouting was underway. . Zachary Quinto while in an interview for his movie Margin Call, stated "Star Trek 2 is on the imminent horizon, I go back to L.A. after this trip to start to prep for it" - "everyone is gearing up". In the interview he also confirmed that he had yet to read the script.

Heh, and I thought he was a cool man...but being gay isn't supposed to be bad, I respect that and of course his honesty as well. Still like him as an actor - no gay though. :) Anyway I've just realized how much I want a Star Trek sequel, so make it happen fast.

Admire the way he came out and his motivations behind it. I'm a big fan.

That said, called his sexual orientation three years ago. One of my friends owes me ten bucks.

Spock being gay is so ironic considering all the homo-erotic Star Trek fanfic out there. wait, maybe it's not ironic, just funny.

I don't care what he does in his private life. That's his business. Quinto has an impressive responsibility on his shoulders. Spock is so deeply embedded in popular culture that it takes an incredible talent to pick up where Nimoy left off.

First Star Trek was 1,000x better than I expected. I absolutely LOVE the Shatner oldies.

I applaud JJ, as well as the entire cast for the movie they delivered.

Can't wait for the sequel.

When I found out he came out, I gained so much respect for his honesty. Then when he revealed his motivation for coming out, I gained even more respect for him. He's a great actor and seems like a genuinely great person.

He's my favourite actor to have been in Heroes, and he plays Spock wonderfully. Star Trek 2 will be such a good film IMO. I hope to see him in a DC or Marvel CBM some time in the future. He may not have envisioned a Sci-Fi acting career, but there's no doubting his talent in this genre.

Who cares what the eff people do in their own bedrooms. People dont come out say they are virgins, do it doggy style, into bsdm etc. When no body is asking, why are you telling ?

@Nephillim people do that as a transparent form of manipulation. Its their feeble attempt at trying to get you tobe quiet by setting on a fictional situation where if you say you dont like something you must really like it.

But to each their own I don't like getting my own poop on me let alone someone elses

Emo Spock sucks. I was hoping they would down play it in the next. It's Spock for gawd sake not some boo hooy teenage girl.

Homophobe is such a nonword and down right silly. It would be like if someone that didn't like people that play bridge and because of that you have a fear of bridge players.

It was not the "first" Star Trek movie, it´s was the eleventh, it was a sequel, not a full reboot, you TrekNoobs.
