CONFIRMED: Final Episodes Of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS To Be Released In 2014

The news that Disney had bought Lucasfilm was tainted somewhat when it was revealed that a new series - Star Wars Rebels - meant the cancellation of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Well, producer and director Dave Filoni has now revealed some very welcome news for fans of that series...

Thanks to Dave Filoni, we now have a rough idea as to when we should expect to see the final episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. While it's unknown whether they will air on Disney XD, be released online via a site like iTunes or simply sent straight to DVD and Blu-ray is unclear, but the fact that fans will get to see these - and presumably a proper finale - should still come as very good news. Check out Filoni's message below and be sure to sound off with your thoughts on this news in the usual place! Do you think Star Wars Rebels will be a suitable replacement?

Star Wars fans - I have some exciting news! We have wrapped production on all of the remaining Star Wars: The Clone Wars episodes, and while that might be sad news in one way, it's good news in another. It means you will finally get to see them. When, exactly, is a detail I cannot yet share. I can confirm that in early 2014 you will be watching the final episodes of The Clone Wars, including one of Master Yoda's most challenging missions. So, get ready. We've got Clone Wars and Rebels coming at you in 2014. Animated Star Wars is alive and well. Trust in the Force my friends."

Good, they need to stop dramatizing fictional space war. What about all of the storm troopers with PTSD? The troops that came home and were unemployable or disabled and spent the rest of their life begging for food on the streets of Alderaan? Does anyone care about them?

I want to see a series called After Star Wars: Unemployed Storm Troopers

I feel as though Star Wars: Rebels will be another Ultimate Spider-Man, Hulk and the Agents of SMASH, and Avengers Assemble. Can Disney XD actually attempt to get serious with their shit just as they did with Earth's Mightiest Heroes?

@Badger I would feel the EXACT same way, if Dave Filoni & Greg Weisman wasn't part of the project. I know that doesn't guarantee that it won't be kiddie. But it makes me cautiously optimistic.

can't see a problem with disney cancelling star wars the clone wars, its run its course we've had what five seasons.

time for something new & hopefully better, especially if its set during the original trilogy or after return of the jedi.

@Badger

Dont get too excited about Weisman being on board, Ultimate Spider-Man has Bendis, Paul Dini and Joe Casey working on it and it still sucks dog shit.

@ekrolo2 But this is Greg Weisman. His projects (The Gargoyles, The Spectacular Spiderman, and Young Justice) are usually not the kiddie types.

But although I agree it's not guaranteed to be the Kid & Adult friendly show, you still have to be somewhat optimistic.

I'm a pure hardcore star wars fan, so I love any and everything SW. I believe SW is and always will be greater than the sum of its parts (glass half full mentality if you will). So while I hate to see SWTCW go, I am, at the same time, very excited about SWR.

I'm just happy that SWTCW is getting a proper ending. They probably had to negotiate some sort of deal with WB which would explain why it's taken so long to release some info

I've been a fan of Clone Wars since the beginning, when they started out as the Animated Micro Series. The overall character development of this series was far better than anything the prequels had to offer, but the series wasn't perfect. One of the issues I've always had was that they kept pushing the boundaries and making the story bigger and bigger. Normally, I wouldn't call such a thing a problem, but when a series is meant to be confined to a certain amount of time and bridge just a small gap, it can lose sight of its purpose, and I think that is what happened with this series. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy it immensely, and I really look forward to getting some closure with these episodes.

Dynamically, this series is actually what Rebels should be, so I hope they don't change the formula much for the new series.

I watched The Clone Wars with my 3 year old. It was his introduction to Star Wars and he was really disappointed when it was cancelled. He should be happy to hear about this like he was about Star Wars Rebels.

Clone Wars was fantastic for kids and adults. It had a few episodes which fell a little short, but some which were simply amazing. I think the freedom in Rebels will be welcome, as they introduce and terminate new characters with less influence from the outside.

My daughter became a Star Wars fanatic because of Clone Wars as much as she has become a Marvel fanatic from cartoons and movies. I can't wait for this to be released and for Rebels!

Sooooo -does that mean buying the Complete series on Blu Ray is a waste of time right now, since it wont have these final episodes???
