Could STAR WARS JEDI: SURVIVOR's Cal Kestis Appear In Live-Action? Lucasfilm President Weighs In

Fans have long made their interest known in seeing Cameron Monaghan bring Cal Kestis to life in a live-action Star Wars project, and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has finally responded to that...

Jedi: Fallen Order was a bigger hit than anyone anticipated, and the story of young Jedi Cal Kestis instantly resonated with Star Wars fans. As a result, the character has become a firm fan favourite, with the hope being that he will eventually make the leap to live-action.

While the adventure will continue for Cal in this month's Jedi: Survivor, the fact his story is set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope opens the door to him appearing in any number of future projects. That hasn't happened yet, unfortunately, and it seems he'll be confined to video games for the time being.

Still, there continue to be rumours online that Gotham alum Cameron Monaghan will bring his video game protagonist to the big or small screen and Lucasfilm President Kathleen weighed in on that during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly (via SFFGazette.com).

"I've seen a lot of chatter online about that. [Laughs] It could be really interesting," she admitted. "It's not something that's front and center right at the moment, but what's interesting in the company that we do is that everybody across all these different lines of business, we all talk to one another."

"That often doesn't happen in situations like this, but because so many of the people at Lucasfilm, are used to working together, we're very transparent about what the storytelling is that's going on — whether it's in the streaming space or the movie space, or books, animation games, whatever it is. Eventually, it'll be some kind of immersive entertainment."

There are many things we talk about just in terms of how we use technology with ILM inside the company," Kennedy continued. "So this constant cross-pollination of ideas to determine just exactly what stories move into the movie space, what stories move into the TV space — you never know, because the creative process is very similar in all of those different spaces."

"And so you don't have a crystal ball. You see what works, and then if it does, you draw from that."

Kennedy certainly isn't dismissing the notion, and there have been rumblings about a Cal Kestis TV series in the past. Of course, we're not sure what that would mean for the video game franchise, though there's a chance the sequel will either wrap up his story or serve as a jumping-off point for something in the live-action realm.

Failing that, we still have Jedi: Survivor to look forward to and a surprise cameo somewhere can't be discounted given how many times we've been surprised by those on Disney+.

As always, be sure to stay tuned for updates as we have them.

I hope not, ruins and stakes for future Jedi Survivor sequels

@Taonrey - Fair point. Kinda off-topic, but what would you think about a Jedi Survivor sequel set during the OT? A game where you have to play as Cal and the crew going on secret ops missions for the Rebellion on some unexplored front of the war?

@DarkModeDan - think that would be great, 2 games in the prequel era and 2 games in the OT era

@Taonrey - also I don't think they want to highlight how much the obi wan series ripped that game off.

@Origame - I doubt they would mention any of his adventures. I don't even think the live action shows have mentioned that Ahsoka is Anakin's Padawan.

They did model Cal after Cameron Monaghan, so it'd be a pretty seamless transition from the games to a role in a show (...or movie if they actually manage to finally get one through the pipeline), and it'd be cool to see him get a big role in another major franchise.

Although, they'd have to either contend with where he was during the original trilogy, or take him out sometime before the OT. Order 66's survival rate seems to be increasing every year... 😂

@DarkModeDan - I'm kinda fine with it since there were like 10k Jedi. Think my only issue is it's obvious lucasfilm want more Jedi around, So why tf did they kill them off again in TFA.

@Taonrey - Because J.J. wanted to remake Episode 4, and now...we suffer. 😔

I would say majority of Star Wars side stories have taken place between episodes 3/4 and episodes 6/7. Not many stories have taken place between episodes 4/5 and 5/6. Maybe a future live action show that takes place between 4/5 or 5/6 can show Cal. It wouldn’t interfere with the games story since the first game and sequel takes place after episode 3.

What about bringing back Starkiller from the Force Unleashed games? Even if his story would be reconnected, it would be a very good counterpoint against Cal Kestis.

“Rumblings”… is in when you have a stomach ache. Dude consist has the strangest word choices. Always.

That being said, the character would be awesome in a movie or tv show.

With all of this stuff, I genuinely have to ask what the point is? Why bother even teasing all these characters when we know none of them are even gonna be around for the Sequels?

@Kurban - does it matter if they're around in the sequels? Majority of them would be pushing 70. Characters have to die at some point.

I hope to see Cal in future TV or movie adventures. The First game is awesome, the scene where Cere knights Cal is one of the most touching moments in Star Wars for me (and I feel like being knighted myself haha)

Damn. I really thought they were doing a lot more interconnectivity with their properties. Cal is such an obvious choice for live action. Even if only for a cameo during a flashback

If Rey's Jedi Order has a council I kinda want an older Cal to be on it. Although it would ruin any stakes for the games I suppose if we now he survives

I'm okay with little nods here and there. But to be honest I don't really need to see Cal in live action.
