Domhnall Gleeson burst into the spotlight earlier this year with an outstanding turn in Ex Machina. Now he's set to join castmate Oscar Isaac in the hugely anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But, as Gleeson explains, the nefarious 'General Hux' isn't likely to have much in common with Isaac's heroic 'Poe Damaron'. "Yeah, I mean you look at him and you realise he’s not a good guy! He’s got an English accent so he can’t be good!" he joked.

Thanks to J.J. Abrams's fondness for secrecy, the Irish actor remained fairly tight-lipped about any key plot details relating to the "merciless" General Hux. However, he did elaborate on what drew him to the role. "Yeah, it's fun to do different things," he told Total Film (via Games Radar), "I hadn't played anybody like [Hux] before. Star Wars is amazing, J.J. Abrams is amazing, but the thing to do was play something different. That’s what got me really excited."

Having featured in the last two Harry Potter movies, Gleeson's no stranger to huge franchises. Despite this, he was easily overwhelmed the first time he walked on set. "That does sort of take your breath way," he confessed, "That’s one of those ‘pinch me’ moments. I experienced it in a major way on Harry Potter and it’s a similar thing with Star Wars, except you look down and you’re in the gear and you have stuff to say and you’re like, ‘Holy God.’ And yes, it’s very difficult to remain cool about stuff like that. There’s no two ways about it, it’s totally brilliant."

In the picture above he doesn't even look like himself, that's a good thing because it will help him melt into the role much better.

If Star Wars couldn't kill Natalie Portman's career, maybe Gleeson will survive this mess too.

Her career wasn't killed but if it was tarnished I'd think that was due more to 'George Lucas' than 'Star Wars'.

His prequels were poorly written and directed for the most part with some pretty horrendous dialogue. At this point I'm glad he's off the job. He really lost touch as was clear from the account of his odd ideas and heavy handed approach to the property. I think it's best to leave the franchise in better hands or at least see what others can do with it.

Look at the incredible games that could have been (1313, Battle of the Sith Lords) had George acted properly with them as opposed to keeping developers in limbo with obscure direction, confusing them with strange meetings, and only to later ignore them outright and sell the company without telling the teams they were all fired.
