Natalie Portman Would Be "Open To" Reprising Her STAR WARS Prequels Role As Padme Amidala

Though we have no idea why Lucasfilm would choose to bring the character back, Natalie Portman has revealed that she would be interested in reprising the role of Padme Amidala should the opportunity arise.

Queen Padmé Amidala played a vital role in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, before passing away while giving birth to twins Luke and Leia at the end of Revenge of the Sith. Her death is what ultimately pushed Anakin Skywalker to fully abandon the path of the Jedi and turn to the dark side of the Force.

The Disney+ Star Wars shows have allowed us to revisit earlier timelines in the Galaxy Far, Far Away, and though we have seen both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprise their respective roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin/Darth Vader, Padme has yet to make an appearance.

Amidala has appeared in The Clone Wars animated series and several Star Wars novels, but we haven't seen her in live-action since ROTS.

Honestly, the character wasn't really required for the story the Obi-Wan Kenobi series was telling, and it's difficult to imagine any new spin-off or prequel focusing on Padme. Even so, it sounds like Natalie Portman might be interested in returning should the opportunity present itself.

During an interview with GQ, the Academy Award-winner said she hasn't been asked about potentially reprising the role, but would be "open to it."

Could Amidala ever return for a present-day storyline? Let's assume Lucasfilm wouldn't go so far as resurrecting her (we don't want another "somehow, the Emperor returned" moment), but is a Force Ghost a possibility? Padme wasn't a Jedi, of course, but that doesn't mean she couldn't show up in a some sort of vision or dream.

It's a stretch, we know, but if Natalie Portman wants to return as Padme, we say find a way to bring her back!

What do you guys think? Would you like to see Portman as Padme again? Drop us a comment down below.

Think it's good she's talking to people who actually remembers she was in those movies.

It's still baffling a director hired to make a star wars movie didn't know Natalie Portman played one of the main characters.

What if she came back as a female version of Obi Wan?

I guess never say never? But Amidala already served her purpose, didn’t she? Knock boots with Anakin, and give birth to Luke & Leia.

I guess they could have a pre-Revenge of the Sith flashback scene where she and Hayden Christensen, both in their early 40’s, pretend they’re both still 20 years old?

I understand actors are having "a hard time" after the pandemic, but she didnt learn nothing after Thor 4?

@TheHumanSpider2 - She is definitely in the point of her career where she wants to have fun and please her kids. That "IDGAF" period

She has older kids now and is definitely in that "I'm game for whatever as an actress and want to connect with my kids" stage

@GhostDog -

She is at the stage of thinking for retirement.

Once you hit your 40's you start thinking about retirement and what life will be like when you're not working.

These actors shit talking big budget films are now having a change of heart because of how the industry is changing with A.I., union negotiations, streaming and people's viewing habits. Media is changing. YouTubers make more than alot of actors nowadays 😳

Padmé was my favorite character of the Prequels, so I'm all for it!

Remember when she wore a dress to an awards show with female directors names on it to promote women in the industry then got busted cause she works with more male directors and her company hires more male directors than female. 🤷‍♂️🤣

There’s no need for it. Padme’s dead and she’s in her forties. And we honestly don’t need anymore prequel-era stories either, we got 3 movies and seven seasons of Clone Wars. If she did SW again, only thing that would make sense was a new role, maybe as an alien with prosthetics and makeup to make her look different.

She's a babe. I'd watch her scrub a toilet in her dirty pajamas.

Being that besides Love and Blunder she hasn't done that much on a large dollar scale I can imagine she wouldn't say no to a hefty paycheck.

They should have never killed her in the first place.

Luke asked Leia, "What do you remember about your mother?"

Leia, "Feelings mostly. She was pretty but sad."

Luke, "I have no memory of my mother."

So Padme should have helped raise Leia in secret on Alderaan.
And when Alderaan was destroyed she should have been killed, or had died prior to its destruction.

Based on the fact that Leia doesn't remember much about her it's safe to assume she died while Leia was maybe a two or three years old tops.

So there is no reason for Padme to come back unless they digitally de-age Portman and tell some of her story behind the scenes during the Clone Wars when she was out of the picture.

Could she show up in Andor as one of the ruling elites working behind the scenes to build the rebellion?
Possibly.
For the safety of Leia she could have left her on Alderaan when she was very young and went in hiding with the fledging rebellion to help save the galaxy.

Is there a way to get her back? Yes.
Should they? NOPE

They're gonna bring her back to reveal she was an actual Palpatine all this time. And at the end she decides to ditch that last name and reveal herself as Morbius.

She couldn't get work because directors thought she was bad based on these movies. I fail to see why she'd come back that wasn't attached with a $.
