Samuel L. Jackson Talks STAR WARS: EPISODE VII And UNBREAKABLE 2

In a very interesting interview, Samuel L. Jackson (Marvel's The Avengers) has revealed a few of his theories as to how 'Mace Windu' could make a return in Star Wars: Episode VII and shares his thoughts on the unlikely sequel to M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable.

Jamie Foxx has spilled some interesting details about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 while promoting Django Unchained, while Samuel L. Jackson has also been pretty open about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Well, talking to The Huffington Post recently, Jackson once again touched upon a possible return as Mace Windu in Star Wars: Episode VII and looked back on just how much he initially wanted to be a part of that world. In fact, he didn't even care how small a role it would be! "I told George that. Look, you don't have to give me a part. All I need to do is put on one of those white [frick]ing Stormtrooper outfits and run across the screen. And I'll know that I'm in it. Nobody needs to know -- I don't care. I just want to say, "I'm in that shit." I don't have to have a credit. I don't have to have anything. I'll know!"

As for a return in Disney's Episode VII, the actor was quick to come up with a theory as to how Mace Windu could be brought back despite seemingly meeting his demise in Revenge of the Sith. "He just went out the window. He's a Jedi! He could have landed on a ledge." When the interviewer suggested that he could have survived by jumping on a speeder as Anakin did in Attack of the Clones, he said: "I could have done any of that. And I'm down with that."

Talk soon turned to Unbreakable, the 2000 film which saw Jackson play Elijah Price in what is widely considered to be M. Night Shyamalan's best. "There were supposed to be three. I don't know," the actor said when pushed for an update on the long talked about sequel. "You'll have to ask the brilliant director who wrote it and didn't do the rest of them. I mean, he [Shyamalan] hasn't made a really good movie since then." When it was mentioned that the reason for his lack of success since Unbreakable may have something to do with worrying too much about a big twist, Jackson added, "Yeah, there's that. And there's, you know, "I'm smarter than everybody coming to watch my movie." Quentin's not that. He's just, "I want you to love my movie. I want you to love it and enjoy it because this is [frick]ing cool." Be sure to sound off with your thoughts on these comments in the usual place!

I think the first goal of the new Star Wars director should be to distance him or herself as far from the prequels as possible. Act like the damn things never existed. In other words, "No, Sam."

n to the o, NO. Mace is dead. He fell, and got his tail electrocuted, his heart had to have exploded going out the window.

LOL @ ALL OF YOU!

Just MAD/BITTER that Jackson said he voted for Obama cus he's BLACK. Stop taking that so seriously.

Geez...

Infact... Stop taking this so seriously. Such anger is disturbing...

SO WHAT if he briefly returns as Mace Windu, it is believable that he simply fell out the window and landed on the ledge. LOL! Maybe he exiled himself on another planet like Yoda did which would explain his absence.

There... I just came up with a realistic story behind Mace. Landed on a ledge went into exile on another planet.

Its Jedi academy stuff right? So they don't need a living Mace, make him the holocron interface, can't seewhy anyone would take issue with that, I'd rather have a Jedi known to be powerful be the interface than some random tentacle headed Twi-Lek I never heard of...

@Nubax: This guy is 100% right, you are talking about a universe where falling in slow motion, absobing laser bolts, seeing the future and manifesting as a spirit is commonplac and accepted. No one has any grounds to say SLJ is being unrealistic to say that he could be in the new ones

EXACTLY!

It MUST be another agenda for ANYONE in here to say what's Impossible in the Star Wars Universe ;)

...ESPECIALLY when you're talking about the JEDI. One who only got pushed out a window LOL!

Maybe they just don't like the prequels, and Jackson's character would have probably have been long dead from old age anyway.

Oh and, you sure do jump to some specific conclusion.

Mace is dont dead, as I have said before. No way a Jedi of his caliber would have died from a fall like that. and @dickbelt

As Anakin survived by jumping on a speeder and later getting his ass whoop by Obi and surviving the pit. As Maul survived being CUT IN HALF by Qui gon jinn. Windu could easily use force grip or push, or enhance his body with the force allowing him to jump off the wall to safety. Which the character has done a number of time in recent show.

Don't bring back Windu unless it's some sort of other plane of existence Jedi council thing, and then only a very small cameo

I don't understand why he really want to returned to SW, his role in it is over, his character is dead anyway

what about focused to your current job as Nick Fury, Mr. Jackson

@NubaX - You don't think disliking a person for a racist position is a good enough reason? Fair enough. For some people, entertainment can bleed into the political and should be expected when entertainers voice their political motivations.

+++

Mace Windu - Not developing the story in the prequels is what hurt this character. Left completely up to the imagination, Windu could have been amongst the more interesting characters in the SW Universe. As for future installments? Jackson doesn't have the gravitas to pull of serene and wise. If the want is for a black jedi, get another actor, for goodness sake, get Idris Elba.

+++

Unbreakable - Sounds like M Night is a bit of an ass. Sad. What a trilogy that might have been. Begs the question as to how much hype Nolan might have received had M Night continued on with a superhero world set in greater realism.

If Liam Neeson wanted back into the Star Wars universe, y'all wouldn't say sh!t, let alone call him an @$$hole.

And yeah, he's a freaking Jedi. Lightning or not, he could've survived that plus the fall. I mean, this is a reality where the high ground only matters when it's a plot point (Obi-Wan/Maul-Obi-Wan/Anakin) so if the plot calls for Mace to have survived that $#!t, then best believe, he did. :)

@NubaX: The only member making racially motivated posts is you. You're so obsessed with racism, you're projecting it onto the majority of CBM members and you're not even aware of it.

If you want to be "disturbed" by something, I'd go with that.

Luke took way more lightning than Mace did in Return Of The Jedi before Vader stepped in. So Mace surviving that and landing on a cruiser or ledge is completely believable.

And, uh, Devil was NOT a sequel to Unbreakable. M Night Chronicles is supposed to be completely separate from any of his previous work, and he didnt even write or direct it. He just came up with the basic story. A different writer wrote the screenplay, and someone else directed it. How was it in any way connected to the events of Unbreakable? The two have nothing to do with each other. By definition, that means its NOT a sequel.

It does seems highly unlikely that Mace Windu survived all that. You never know with Hollywood though.

I thought Unbreakable was great! I wouldn't say no to a sequel. Samuel L. Jackson is right about M. Night Shyamalan. His movies haven't been nearly as good since then.

I enjoyed unbreakable but he's right about shymalan thinking he's smarter than the viewer. I saw the twist in the sixth sense but not in unbreakable. Also it was one of Willis' best roles.

Samuel Jackson is already involved in so many good movies. Why does he want to part of Star Wars again? After all, by his own admission, his ambition of featuring in that world has already been fulfilled. He should just move on and let others be a part of this project.

his absence in the original trilogy won't be a real problem at all for me.. there's always a logical explanation for it..whatever it is, but it won't be a problem for Lucas & co to solve.

as for Unbreakable..one of my favorite super hero flicks of all time. but i gotta say the ONLY thing that would redeem that disappointing ending would be to do a sequel to it. i mean the whole movie feels like a buildup to something more epic in scale and story..so, yeah...a sequel, or two, would be so welcome. but, i dunno..sam'd be too fat for mr. glass now. but, i dunno..maybe they could make it like after so and so years in jail, mr. glass escaped and...he GAINED weight. and thus, got to be MORE evil.
but, yeah..i'd wanna see more unbreakable movie(s).

Bring him back I say, as the bad guy. As NubaX suggested, he lived in Exile, stared to feel disturbances in the force, found the Jedi academy and not happy with Luke for not doing the Jedi training properly, takes them all on. I mean, taking into consideration the prequels (sorry!!) Jedi's start at a young age and go through trails, none of which Luke went through (that we saw!) so he wouldn't know about them.

Windu would be pissed at this, and try take over the Academy or destroy it. Could have become a bit crazy in isolation much like Yoda kinda did

There ye go, SLJ loosing his shit would be fun to watch in a Star Wars movie.
