Acclaimed actor and filmmaker Jon Favreau is heading from one mega Disney franchise to another as it has been confirmed that he will have a role in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Responding to a photo that Favreau posted earlier this month, Solo director Ron Howard confirmed his involvement in the upcoming Star Wars origin spin-off. According to Howard, Favreau will voice "a very cool and important alien character."
This won't be Favreau's first journey to a galaxy far, far away as he previously voiced the character Pre Vizsla in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It's unknown how big of a role Favreau's alien character will actually have in the movie, but it sounds like he could be integral to its plot. Regardless, it's still a pretty cool gig for the actor who is an admitted Star Wars fan.
At one point Favreau was one of several directors listed to possibly helm The Force Awakens, though it eventually went to J.J. Abrams. Though Favreau has yet to land himself a Star Wars directing gig, he has found himself in the big chair for other popular Disney films, including 2016's live-action The Jungle Book and the upcoming Lion King. Nevertheless, with two new Star Wars trilogies in the pipeline, it's possible Favreau could find himself behind the camera for one of them.
Solo: A Star Wars Story flies into theaters May 25, 2018.
