Over the past week or so, some pretty silly sounding rumours have been doing the rounds claiming that Tom Hardy is set to suit up as Boba Fett. As cool as that would no doubt be, there's no evidence to support that, but a new report from Making Star Wars (who were very reliable for Star Wars: The Force Awakens intel) reveals that the actor is indeed set to don a mask and make a cameo appearance in Rian Johnson's Star Wars Episode VII next December. Here's how it will go down according to them:
-
Tom Hardy plays a First Order stormtrooper.
-
Said stormtrooper glimpses FN-2187 on a secret mission but doesn’t realize it.
-
The “incognito” FN-2187 is surprised when the stormtrooper walks up behind him and slaps him on the ass.
-
FN-2187 turns around and believes he’s dead. He’s surely going to be captured.
-
The stormtrooper is elated to see his old friend from back during their First Order academy days.
-
The stormtrooper congratulates FN-2187 on his promotion to Resistance infiltrator and spy.
-
FN-2187 is free to go about his business to his amazement.
This sounds pretty awesome, and it makes sense that Supreme Leader Snoke and company wouldn't necessarily inform every Stormtrooper in the Galaxy that one of their own has turned on them (after all, that could lead to further dissension in the ranks). Like Daniel Craig's appearance in The Force Awakens, this sounds like it will be a really memorable and funny moment, but bear in mind that this cameo from Hardy has yet to be confirmed. We may have to wait until next December to find out...
