STAR WARS: Jason Flemyng & Matt Smith Latest Names To Be Linked To Roles

While Smith (Doctor Who) has just been mentioned as having gone in for a meeting, Flemyng (X-Men: First Class) appears to have a copy of the script -- could he have actually been cast in the movie already? Read on for more.

We know that Disney and director J.J. Abrams are casting a very wide net to try to fill the various roles in Star Wars Episode VII, so news of yet another actor going in to read for a part isn't exactly a big deal anymore. Still, this should pique Doctor Who fans' interest: Bleeding Cool cite a "fairly well-placed source" as claiming that former Time Lord Matt Smith has gone in to meet for a role. Whether that's an actual screen test or just a chat with the head honchos is unclear, but it's entirely possible Smith could swap a sonic screwdriver for a lightsaber.

Also, this:

It seems X-Men: First Class actor Jason Flemyng is having a little read through the script for Star Wars Episode VII while he downs pints. Has he been cast? He literally has a script with his name on it at any rate, so he would at least appear to be up for a role. I'm not sure broadcasting this fact online is the wisest decision on his part, but there ya go. Obviously none of this is official..until it's official, but what do you guys make of the latest names to be linked to the movie?

I really don't care about what actors they choose. It's important but I'm more interested in the plot and the subtitles of the next trilogy. I vote original story and the name "The Cold Alliance".

It's sad that the Flemyng role of note to most people is FC. Check out Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels for a much better performance.

@Yoss give it time buddy, it took me six months to get through season 1, it was shit, but getting into doctor goes a little something like this.

Step 1: You lose respect for the friend that reffered the show to you.

Step 2: You grudgingly find yourself gaining respect for the show

Step 3: You fully respect your friend again, in fact now you admire them all the more.

Step 4: You lose all respect for yourself for being ignorant to how much awesome was hidden amidst the terrible special effects and silly antics.

At least that's how it went for me, give it a go make it through the first season, you might be surprised.

Matt Smiths face offends me. He might think the same of me, but I do not wish to see his face in a film I really want to see.

It's pretty obvious that J.J. is ditching CGI and has cast Smith as a live-action Jar Jar guys. Just look at that resemblance! Mystery solved. :)

MrFridayNight: I got it at SmackDown in Manchester last week! They have them for sale on the WWE online store too.

I have a question about Doctor Who. Does it get less boring. I have watched the first few episodes of season 1 of the remake. I just did not like the show. With each season or so being a different actor playing the doctor does the story change with it? The reason I ask is would be weird to skip several episodes and watch the later seasons? I know lots of people love that show and I could never find out why? Is it because I gave up on it to early?

I have enjoyed other BBC shows like Primeval and Merlin but for whatever reason I just did not get into it. So that is why I wanted to know if it changes and gets better.

Matt Smith should be the comic relief of the new Star Wars movies. An actual GOOD comic relief. And to the Doctor Who haters: [frick] off :)

The star wars cinematic universe would be a better place with Smith in it. The guy has amazing skills.

@superdude, I absolutely agree with you about Smith having the chops to do damn near anything - HOWEVER, TROA is imo quite possibly the worst episode in all 50 years of Doctor Who. I know folks are fond of his speech, but I cant really stomach anything from that mess.
