STAR WARS: Walt Disney World Is Closing Down Its Galactic Starcruiser A Little Over A Year Since It Opened

Disney is facing a lot of challenges at the moment, and the company has finally had to pull the plug on one of its biggest theme park blunders by closing the doors of the infamous Galactic Starcruiser hotel...

When Florida's Walt Disney World announced plans to open a Star Wars-themed hotel, there was a huge amount of excitement among fans of the franchise.

Unfortunately, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was met with mixed reviews from the start. With trips starting at $4809 for two guests in a standard cabin and going upwards of $6000 for a family, it was out of reach for many visitors.

Its offerings were also hit-and-miss with the supposed immersive experiences boiling down to games primarily aimed at children and roleplay interactions that would only really appeal to the most hardcore of Star Wars fans.

Now, Disney has confirmed (via SFFGazette.com) that the Galactic Starcruiser will close permanently on September 28.

"Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our Guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment," the company said in a statement. "This premium experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our Guests and fans."

"We are so proud of all of the Cast Members and Imagineers who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life and look forward to delivering an excellent experience for Guests during the remaining voyages over the coming months."

Occupancy has plummeted in recent months, with Disney struggling to fill even a single dinner service. Looking at recent YouTube reviews, the hotel looks near-deserted, thereby making the experience guests are paying for more than a little underwhelming.

It was a clever idea that used a lot of groundbreaking technology, so it's a shame this didn't pan out. What Disney will do with the property remains to be seen, but it doesn't sound as if it has a serious future.

@cyclopsprime - They'll replace it with a deserted island where you can live like hobo Luke, only 10 bucks a ticket. You have to get your own drinks tho

Good, if it had been successful with those astronomical prices, it’d set a very scary precedent for other theme parks

Really it just comes down to simple greed. At the end of the day it was just a hotel cashing in on the decor being Star Wars inspired. If they just made it the same price as any other hotel they would have had it packed day in day out. And they could still do that but no money money money. They would of still made their money back if at a normal price

Disney has everyone mad at them.

Rich people, poor people, animation fans, indie fanatics, Marvel fans, Star Wars fans, etc.

Kinda amazing.

@CoHost - looks like Iger can’t stop Chapek’s destructive momentum. Makes me think of Gunn taking over the DCEU. I don’t just feel like the damage is done: I feel like lessons won’t be learned and the trajectory won’t change

@TheWalkingCuban - It's hilarious that you don't understand that everything hates about Disney today was all greenlit by BOB IGER, not Chapek.

All of these terrible movies, shows, theme park ideas, and the Woke ideology being pushed on everyone were all created by Bob Iger years ago.

@HistoryofMatt - I really don’t care, it started falling apart under Bob number 2 not Bob number one and three

@TheWalkingCuban - lol at you thinking it's Chapeks fault. Kathleen Kennedy and Iger are the only ones to blame for everything, from Star Wars to Willow, to the upcoming Indy movie that's getting terrible reviews.

@TheWalkingCuban - Your feelings have jack to do with the facts. Disney didn't "fall apart" under Chapek. Chapek was left holding the bag from the terrible decisions Iger made in the last 3-5 years before he walked out the door, that only came to fruition when Chapek was in charge. Do you seriously not understand how the world of business and movie making and television production works?

@IronMan616 - oh I’m positive Bob #3 aka Bob #1 is full steam ahead on all the agenda stuff that’s messing things up, and that he set it up back then, but that doesn’t mean it was messing things up back then, because it was not full steam ahead yet. So call it what you will, Bob 2 is at the very least the scapegoat. I don’t care, I’ll say it’s both and neither of their faults but it’s especially your fault for not renaming lady and the tramp (Onlyfans Model and the Simp would’ve gotten way more views) you ruined all the remakes, now leave me alone, I’m fairly certain nothing I said comes from an expert.

The fact that they had to get a focus group to figure out why it was failing just shows how out of touch they are. They could have paid anyone who has a basic sense of money to tell them that shit is too expensive, even for Disney prices.

Funny how Disney is blaming DeSantis for why it’s not moving forward with that massive new resort. The company is struggling in so many ways. Waves of layoffs. Cutting content. Raising prices. A lot of people are just sick of their BS.

"The sequel trilogy made people not interested"

How much did "The Clone Wars" film make?

The "Star Wars" brand was decaying before Disney bought it, with Lucas destroying the prestige of the series with his inferior prequels.

It's [frick]ing insane. The prices are so high because of greed and because they don't want "certain people" at their theme park.

Last year the CEO of six flags magic mountain said he wanted " the target consumer and not the Walmart guy" something to that affect and I remember thinking I'm never going their again💁

Loving these comments. Disney's pricing is so out of hand. Even just a day at the parks is astronomical these days. Im always shocked that they are constantly packed, but there are a lot of fans out there. Seems to me that Disney has been turning off a lot of them lately though.

Besides parks all over the world, toys and other merchandise from countless massively popular IPs that reach everyone from babies to adults in their 80’s Disney isn’t going anywhere. They may need to trim the fat, focus on what actually makes them money. Do yourself a favor and look up the chart for the most profitable IP’s in the world. You will be surprised by how profitable just Winnie-the-Pooh is.
