Woody Harrelson Is "Top Choice" To Play HAN SOLO's Mentor In The Upcoming STAR WARS Anthology Movie

Apparently, Woody Harrelson is being eyed for the key role of Han Solo's mentor in Phil Lord and Chris Miller's take on the early life of the iconic space smuggler. More details after the jump...

According to Variety, Woody Harrelson (War for the Planet of the Apes, The Hunger Games, Zombieland) is in talks to play an unnamed mentor for the younger incarnation of Han Solo, who will be played by Hail, Caesar! actor Alden Ehrenreich. Apparently discussions are in the very early stages, but Harrelson is the "top choice" for the role right now. If he signs on, he'll join an already very impressive cast that also includes Emilia Clarke and Donald Glover.

No details on this character are provided, but one would assume he'd also be a smuggler of some sort if he's Solo's mentor.

Kathleen Kennedy and Allison Shearmur are producing the Han Solo standalone flick, which is expected to begin production in January, and is currently set to hit theaters on May 25, 2018.

*tells me about Han Solo's Mentor*
Like I give a shit or I needed to know.

@Quicker - haha accurate but why!?? han Solo doesn't need a mentor. He is naturally the coolest, slickest smuggler out there because that's who he is. "Woody Harrelson to play main antagonist in Solo origin film" would be a much better headline for me to read.

I'm sure this might be a good movie but feels so unnecessary. Obi Wan, Boba Fett, Darth Maul, Jar Jar...all characters id rather see a prequel for. OK maybe not Jar Jar

Why do I get the feeling Woody will pretty much be reprising the role of Haymitch for this?

@Quicker - Yeah he's done a couple of these type parts with Zombieland as well, but when you're right for a part then you play it a lot. Look at Antony Hopkins.

Would love to see Han and Woody rip a spacebong together.

Harrrelson makes everything better, so that's a plus. I was just thinking the other day he would be great in star wars as an old Jedi or a bounty hunter, but smuggler works too. As much as I was against this film was first announced I'm starting to get really excited for it. The directors are great and the cast is excellent, after rouge one I'm ready!

Interesting. I'm imagining something of a Yondu - Star Lord relationship here.

@NoMeaning45 - ...should never be made. Seriously. Can we petition Disney to stop production? No one wants 2 hours of some kid pretending to be Harrison Ford!

@Super12 - I just think it's so freakin unnecessary, and will surely ruin Han in some eyes of fans.

But, I'm really liking the cast

@NoMeaning45 - If they're going to do a young Lando then they found the perfect actor, I'm admittedly excited about that. But Harrison Ford = Han Solo. Same goes for Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. They're too iconic to be replaced. I'd rather Disney spend their time on the myriad of other stories that could be told.
