Joss Whedon Throws His Name In The Hat For The Troubled Terminator Franchise!

Joss sent a public letter to the owners of the Terminator Franchise, bidding $10,000 for the rights.

Joss Whedon is cool. He wrote Buffy the Vampire Slayer and became successful in Hollywood, which is something the people who complain about the possibility that Joss will end up with the Terminator franchise will never do. So that is an accomplishment in it's own right. Speaking to EW.com Joss explains himself a little bit:

"Here's the thing: It's not a slam on The Terminator. I love The Terminator. That part's totally true. I was thinking to myself, 'Not since they auctioned off frames from The Little Mermaid have I wished I had more money this much.' So you know what, never hurts to ask. I loved the movies, even the later movies. I loved the mythology. I loved the TV show [The Sarah Connor Chronicles] - like, really loved. Not for pretend. And not just because of [star] Summer Glau.

"But mostly, it's just me being a dumb-ass, because that seems to be what I do best - I'm not even very good at that. So, no, I do not think they're going to call me and say 'Congratulations! We'll have that $10,000 now.' Although, it would be non-exclusive. Other people could make Terminator movies and TV shows too. I'm just putting that out there in case you publish this."

Whedon goes on to say "I adore the franchise. I literally did learn a huge amount from that [franchise]. [The Terminator] came out when I was in college, and I was like, This is how you construct a story. It's very important to me. That part was true. The part where I think I'm going to get it, not so true. And certain ideas, like [bidding for] The Lord of the Rings and the Batman franchise, also possibly not true.

"If they will give them to me for $10,000, I absolutely would write a check. That's true. They just didn't say those [properties] were for sale. They said they were on back-order, is what I understand. It's all ridiculous, but it comes from love."

Access broke this story a few days ago saying in his article that Sony is the front runner to end up with the Terminator Franchise. If that info is true I would be happy with that. Joss is cool but Sony is cooler. More funds, better picture = Sony with the Terminator Franchise rights. If there is to be a movie to follow up Terminator Salvation please do it right. Please sit down and think about what you are putting up on screen. Please make McG shut his mouth about how big his d%$k is. If he doesnt want to do that then find someone that will. Terminator is a solid franchise, it sucks that the people that were entrusted with it (McG) rushed, trying to make his mark and then failed while making the movie.

I agree, find someone who knows how to write a good story and give this to Sony, who has the money to produce something as big as this franchise. I hope the Terminator franchise doesn't go down without a fight.

DarthMulder: Great point! Astonishing X-Men was excellent IMO so I'd be happy to see Whedon's take on terminator based just on that!

Whedon turns almost everything to gold (Dollhouse is not quite gold but its good)
i dont think he would be right for the Terminator movies but he does know what is good and the whole point of the letter was that Terminator as a concept is amazing and has great potential as a franchise but it will take some excellent writers/directors to make it
and less Bale everywhere

@Tbag LMFAO

@Jman you make a very good point, but i think terminator salvation was good. Was it the best.....not at all better than t3...HELL YEA. I mean im sure everyone agrees that christian bale was awesome in it and when i saw it with Sam Worthington I enjoyed the fact tht he did a great job. but it wasnt that bad right......??? i was guessing 7.8/10

I agree with you Set, I thought Terminator 4 was very good. Of course the first 2 are the best, but I really didn't have any problems with 3 & 4. I just hope we can keep going! :)

this guy did alien resurrection and they movie sucked ass. he would do the same for terminator. as i said before i loved buffy and angel and even firefly, but that type of storytelling is not right for this franchise

Set2Fallfirst - 11/5/2009, 11:29 AM
@superdog I agree buffy and angel and firefly have the same sort of feel like you know HE wrote them ya know that they were his. But alien wasnt in his alley and it sucked. and Idk terminator would probably end up like terminator 3 and 4 was better than 3

I am not sure how well he would do a Terminator movie or tv show but am willing to give him a go at it. Serenity and Firefly had plenty of moments that were pretty gruesome and violent, he could put his mind into that area when dealing with Terminator and it would be good.

I also agree with Stubby; Lee and Tea make days so much better with their craziness.

tea: lol! that picture of Colin sums it up for me about him. he is such a male whore.

Terminator movies... tv show... they're not bad. My family liked the show with Lena Heady b4 it got cancelled. give him a chance. he might surprise you.

Whedon was of course just joking with that bid but at the same time, if the right studio gets the rights...there is the possibility that they'll hire him to write and/or direct it.
Whedon would make a great Terminator movie. You think not?...Watch Serenity.

Tea, your nuts! Serenity was the best thing since the original Star Wars. But maybe he'snot right for the Terminator..then again, lets face it, they ain't even Terminator movies anymore anyway! They are pg13 war films with robots.
