Willem Dafoe and Rob Kazinsky are Added to the Cast of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim

Variety reports Kazinsky has joined the cast of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim as a member of the team fighting alien invaders. Moreover, Willem Dafoe is in early talks to play a “rogue scientist with expertise on alien creatures.” Sounds like perfect casting. Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, and Max Martini also star.

Willem Dafoe as a rogue scientist? Oh I like the sound of that. He might be one of the few actors that can ham up a role and keep it tasteful, like his performances in Spider-man and The Boondock Saints. He always channels a performance that is pleasantly unexpected.

While Rob is someone I'm not too familiar with, oh to hell with it, I have no clue who he is. As for my research, it shows Mr. Kazinsky is a British Soap star on the show, Eastenders. I would assume that he must have some chops if great directors like Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro are interested in him.

Plot Synopsis:An alternate version of Earth in the near future, decades after a historic date in November 2012 when the first kaiju, a towering Godzilla-like beast, emerged from a hole in the Pacific Ocean and attacked the city of Osaka, Japan. The second is “The Anteverse,” another universe on the other side of that gaping portal, 5 miles below our ocean’s surface.

Since the first attack, the rim has been “spitting out” a variety of gigantic monsters at an increasing rate, which then stride out of the ocean and begin destroying sea-bordering cities, like Tokyo and Los Angeles. In order to combat these monstrous, otherworldly menaces, the military developed the “Jaeger” program, which trains teams of two pilots to jointly operate massive, building-sized mechanized suits of armor and high-tech weaponry.

Pacific Rim is scheduled for release on July 12, 2013.

Why is Hollywood churning out these alien invasion films...It's all starting to become a big YAWN now! CBMs however will NEVER get out of style & should only be getting better & better as the CGI gets better too!

I agree, like Prometheus this does sound like an original or fresh concept for a movie. For those that saw Monsters this sounds like if will be the movie we all wanted that to be.

Under the paint though you can tell this is not really that original. The plot is an old one used in movies like X: The Unknown. Giant monsters that are "Godzilla-like" are not original, they are doing the same things as Godzilla. And Jaeger robots? I don't want to sound like the Jaegermeister but that sounds an awfully lot like Jet Jaguar, Robot Jox, and an AT-ST all mixed together.

Original...no. Will I be there the moment it opens in theaters. With this useless knowledge I've spouted onto you...YOU KNOW IT!!! This is the stuff geeks like me drool over.

Is that the guy from The Office? Weird to see with that haircut.
