I had heard of this show but I've actually never seen so much as a snippet of footage. I'm going to go ahead and assume it's dated quite a bit, but I am curious to see it for myself. Here's the official synopsis.

By uttering a single magic word young Billy Batson transforms himself into the world's mightiest mortal, Captain Marvel. The acronym of the first letters of the names of the six elders who train Billy with their respective special gifts: Solomon, wisdom; Hercules, strength; Atlas, stamina; Zeus, power; Achilles, courage; and Mercury, speed, in a word...SHAZAM! Now, the entire series is available in this 3-disc set featuring every exciting episode of this classic television show!

Shazam! comes to DVD October 23rd.

Shazam would make a great kids movie. It could be like "Big" but with super powers. C'mon DC, you have ALL of your properties, get off your butt and make some of these!

But would they be able to call him Captain Marvel?

Haha I have the series an it doesnt hold up well at all, but if you've never seen it it's worth the time warp and cheesy look. There was a cartoon too

It certainly doesn't even hold up in a campy way like the 60s Batman show, but it was pretty popular amongst the 8 year olds at the time. However, I did enjoy the episodes where Captain Marvel teamed up with Isis. As a young boy, her short skirt aroused a lot of curiousity.

Wow! I love the box art-- I just wish it was attached to something I would actually buy at some point. But from what I've seen of this show, it was pretty damn awful, so I doubt I'll be getting this one...

Yes it was cheesy and corny and he didn't fight any actual villains but it was all we had and it was great at that time. Will definitely add it to my collection. SHAZAM !!!!!!!!

If you have a hard time sitting through all of the episods of The Flash tv series, then this is about five steps below that. I wish they would have an MST3K version of this release along side it. That would make it viewable.

SupermanDarrel. Legends of the Superheroes was easily my biggest disappointment of 1979. It'll never get that bad ever again. Remember that.
