Todd McFarlane talked with MTV at the New York Comic Con this afternoon. As usual he was not at a loss for words and had some interesting things to say about why there is currently no Spawn animated television show.

"We've been in contact with different studios and now we're doing tests on various technology that will hopefully get me to where I want visually. Here's the balancing act on the animation: How do we make it as cool as heck, but still be able to do it in a financial manner that we can do it every half-hour weekly?"

"We can all think of these grand technologies that now exist that will get us there, but the problem is, we can't do that on a half-an-hour, episodic basis."

"We're doing an experiment to [find out] if there's a hybrid that will be able to get it so when we walk in to pitch it, we can go, 'Here's what it's going to look like, and here's the budget that goes with it. And if you can beat them to the punch on those two things, it's easy for them to say yes."

"When you pitch ideas in Hollywood, you have to assume that 99% of the time they'll say no, so I've learned over time that there's three or four components that are sort of the big moments, and if you can address those up front, then you get their interest a little more. It doesn't mean they're going to buy it and make it, but it means they'll listen to the conversation, because you've thought out their business plan."

I used to love Spawn, and the cartoon was a great example of how a lot of comic books should be brought to life. However, I really think it's time he's moved on to something new.

I liked Spawn a lot, then he killed Malebolgia in issue #100 and I lost interest in it. The show was great and the movie was ok IMO.

When I was a little kid I used to think Spawn was a rip off of Spiderman's Venom (I judged it on how it reminded me of the symbiote just with a red cape and green eyes.) Then I watched the movie, without any prior knowledge of Spawn, and well, I didn't quite know what the hell to think LOL. Well now that I know more about Spawn, I think a show would be awesome.

I've always imagined that if they made a cartoon, it'd be in the style of Samurai Jack. A show could have the potential to be amazing.

I wish they would make a new movie better than the first one, I also like the idea of a new animated series I thought first series was great.

Maybe they could have it straight to dvd or have it air on the premium networks again. I'm hoping they'll bring back Keith David to voice Spawn again. He was great.

I really liked Spawn when I was growing up, he was just the perfect example of bad-assery. And I think that if they nail the correct animation style, it could make one hell off a show.

@Oscuro hahahaha, Broso.

I'm personally a huge fan of Spawn. I think there has been a lot of laziness surrounding one of the most badass comics character ever. Todd McFarlane has been saying he is trying to get a movie and a new animated series going FOREVER. I think he is very uncompromising when it comes to what he wants specifically, which can be a good and a bad thing. But he tries every now and then to do these things and probably ends up being a pain in the ass so it never happens. Also, the mature content of Spawn is another reason why its hard to get funding for the projects I'm sure. That coupled with a total loss in popularity over the years due to I think a lot of poor marketing of the character. Maybe if he didn't spend millions on his collection of sports memorabilia he could afford to fund a large part of the projects himself.

I love Spawn... The animated show was phenomenal! The movie was about as good as the first Judge Dredd. The book was amazing!

Stuck in the 90's or not, I love Spawn and he is a character worthy of a rebirth!
