New ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Featurette Teases Series Finale And A Giant Doctor Octopus

While Ultimate Spider-Man hasn't been the most popular animated version of the webslinger, the series made some bold choices in four seasons. A new featurette has now teased the series finale.

Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man will be coming to an end this month after four seasons on air. The series was - without a doubt -  a very different take on everyone's favourite wallcrawler. While most animated series featuring the character had him flying solo, Ultimate set the hero up as a S.H.I.E.L.D. trainee, leading a team of other teenage superheroes featuring Luke Cage, Nova, Iron Fist, and White Tiger.

The show wasn't exactly a hit with older members of Spidey's fanbase, but still made a lot of creatively bold choices such as making Mary Jane Watson into Carnage, adapting Dan Slott's Spider-Verse storyline, changing the identities of many members of the rogues gallery, and much more. In a new featurette, the cast and crew of the series reflect on their time making the show, along with previewing the finale, which will see Spider-Man square off against the Sinister Six and their leader, Doctor Octopus, who will be transformed into....a giant octopus monster. Check it out below!

Ultimate Spider-Man's two part finale will air on January 7, 2017.

Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man” will culminate in January 2017 with an exciting two-part finale arc titled “Graduation Day” that will see Spider-Man stop Doctor Octopus and the Superior Sinister Six from destroying all of the heroes in New York City. For 2016 to date, the series has reached 51 million Total Viewers across the U.S., generated close to 4 million consumer engagements via VOD/STB and ranks among the network’s top 5 animated series in key targeted boy demographics.

Never was a fan of this series. Seen a few episodes of season 1 and some of season 2, just couldn't get into it. Understand why its popular among kids, but hopefully the new series will have the same appeal to a large range of fans like the 90s series and Spectacular.

I feel like this show never really found out what it wanted to be. Hopefully this next Spidey show will be different in that regard.

Kids don't want to watch this crap, it's beneath them. My kids range from 7 to early teens and they rarely watches animation and when they did they where smart shows like Avatar, Gravity Falls, Regular Show, old X-Men from the 90's and mostly Anime. I think most kids in their early teens prefer Anime, which is more adult themed.

American comics and animation is taking a hit from the invasion of Manga and Anime. The Invasion is so huge that a lot of young artist and writers inspire to create Manga. I don't see kids wanting to make the next superman or spider-man. We can blame this on horrible shows like Teen Titans Go and Ultimate Spider-Man. I can understand marketing towards the toddler aged kids, but you shouldn't forget about them once they reached the early Teen age. They're the future of your genre.

My oldest son is the perfect example, he loved Spider-Man. Now it's all about Attack on Titans and Tokyo Ghoul.

@LEOSTRATOR - Yeah, I'm 24 (almost 25) and I love animation, but unfortunately had to give up on western anime because of how piss-poor it is. Even Anime (cartoons from Japan) at it's worst isn't as bad as some of the stinkers made over here.

It's a shame really. It seems like western animation (more so America) still has the mindset that cartoons are just for kids, and even if they aren't for kids then they're just treated as low level time wasters with stupid level writing (see Family Guy). However, is there still smart cartoon? Yeah, but there few and far between, and aren't rewarded as much, or are cut short in their life before they get a chance to reach their full potential.

Japanese animation, or anime doesn't have this problem. They can be goofy, but still fun for everyone, are be dark and serious (even gritty) with some real psychological/philological aspects that they like to tackle. Such as fate, or religious tones vs science. Or even aspects of society and human nature. I love how Japanese anime still treats the audience (whether it be for kids or adults) with some semblance of intelligents as opposed to the stuff produced here.

I'm so glad this piece of garbage series is finally ending. This show was an embarrassment to the title of Spider-Man and a horrible way to introduce kids to the character. How many kids now think Spider-Man is a mix of lightweight Deadpool, Family Guy, and Ben Ten?
