The web-slinger has donned a number of different costumes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we're ranking them from least to most amazing, all the way from Captain America: Civil War to No Way Home!

Features Opinion

Peter Parker has worn a lot of different costumes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since debuting in Captain America: Civil War in 2016, and Spider-Man: No Way Home alone introduced three new additions! While the hero's Marvel Studios future is uncertain, there's no doubt more to come.

Disney owns the merchandise rights to Spider-Man, of course, so perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that Peter is constantly changing his appearance on the big screen!

Regardless, there have now been a total of eight different costumes worn by Spidey over the past six years, so we've decided to rank them from least to most spectacular. Each of them has good and bad points, and we think you guys will be surprised by where these outfits land.

8. Stealth Suit

It's fair to say most fans expected Spider-Man to have a very different black suit after travelling into outer space in Avengers: Infinity War, but this Stealth costume given to him by Nick Fury (well, Talos) is very cool despite a mostly original creation rather than something lifted from the comic books.

Clearly inspired by the "Spider-Noir" version of the character, this is a clever enough way to hide Peter Parker's identity while he tries to stop Mysterio's Elementals overseas, but not really that Spidey-ish beyond the goggles! Yes, it looks spectacular in action, but it's still unlikely to be remembered as one of his most iconic or classic big screen costumes.

It worked well in the context of this sequel, anyway.

7. Homemade Costume

On the surface, this costume doesn't take much in the way of inspiration from the comic books, either, because Peter Parker has never really worn anything like it. However, on closer inspection, it becomes clear that the Scarlet Spider suit is what led to Marvel Studios dreaming up this homemade suit for Peter Parker, and it looks pretty damn spectacular.

First glimpsed in Captain America: Civil War and later highlighted in Spider-Man: Homecoming, it was a bold decision by Marvel to have Peter wear this while doing battle with The Vulture in the movie's final act.

However, seeing him lift that rubble while decked out in the hoodie made it clear that it's more than just the suit that makes the (spider) man. We do kind of wish he'd been in the classic red and blue costume when that happened, but would be happy seeing more of this in flashbacks.

6. The Black & Gold Suit

This costume is the Upgraded Suit turned inside out after one of Mysterio's supporters threw paint on the wall-crawler. The inner workings of the costume are surprisingly striking from a visual perspective, but what's the point?

Disney holds the merchandising rights to Spider-Man, so we're guessing "selling more toys" is probably the answer to that question. This was only part of the hero's clash with Electro and Sandman, so didn't really factor into Spider-Man: No Way Home for more than a few minutes, and, reasoning aside, it did look pretty great in action.

Black is clearly Holland's colour, so fingers crossed he gets another black suit down the line.

5. Iron Spider

While this may be a departure from the Iron Spider suit seen in the comic books, it still managed to look amazing on screen, and seeing those extra arms in action was a definite highlight in Avengers: Infinity War.

Created entirely by CGI, it's hard to judge a costume brought to life via VFX in a list full of practical ones, but there's no real way a suit like this could have really been done justice. It briefly returned in Spider-Man: No Way Home, though we weren't too sad to say goodbye to it after Peter was defeated by Doctor Octopus.

Ultimately, as great as this one looked in action, there are better versions out there and it could and should have been more memorable. This definitely wasn't Spidey's most exciting outfit in the MCU, but we don't hate it.

4. Integrated Suit

As noted, the Iron Spider suit has a lot of good and bad points, but this costume - a combination of that and the Upgraded Suit - feels a lot more like what Peter should have been wearing in the MCU since day one.

Different to what's come before but still a decent nod to the comic books, the Integrated Suit encapsulates magic, science, and classic Spider-Man. It looked amazing in motion, and while the gold was a little too overpowering, this modern take on this iconic superhero definitely fit the MCU's unique aesthetic.

It differentiated the MCU's Spidey from any other Spider-Men he crossed paths with, all while staying faithful to what we've grown up seeing on the page. It's hard to find fault with that.

3. Stark Suit

Some fans weren't happy with this suit (mostly because of those black lines and the fairly prominent web-shooters) but it's definitely classic Spider-Man...even if the logo isn't all that astonishing.

That may seem like a lot of negatives for a suit that's placed so high here, but there's something that obviously distinguishes this one from the rest in a big way.

We are, of course, referring to the moving eyes, an element absent from the previous live-action costumes that finally gave the wall-crawler the chance to convey emotion in the same way as his comic book counterpart. It looks amazing in action, and this could easily be remembered among the best "classic" costumes by far in years to come.

2. Upgraded Suit

Less busy than the Spider-Man: Homecoming costume and far more visually distinctive thanks to the red and black colour scheme, this is very nearly the hero's best big screen costume to date. It looks like an Alex Ross drawing come to life, and the fact that Peter created this himself was an added bonus.

From a purely visual standpoint, this is a truly amazing suit and one that we're sure fans will be anxious to see more of in the MCU moving forward. That's no longer the direction he seems to be heading in, of course, though we're sure that colour scheme could return somehow.

For a while, it was hard to see how it could get any better than this, especially when it pays homage to the work of the late, great Steve Ditko.

1. The Classic Red & Blue

Admittedly, we only saw this costume for a few seconds, but that's all we needed to declare it the best of all Peter Parker's MCU suits.

Without access to Stark Technology, the teenager was forced to create his own superhero costume...just like his comic book counterpart. Clearly inspired by the two Spider-Men he met earlier in Spider-Man: No Way Home, this snazzy red and blue number is a little shiny, but looks like it was pulled straight from the page.

We can't wait to see more of this design in the MCU, and it's what it says about the character beyond just what he's wearing that's such a big part of why we love it. Throw in the fact that it looked both amazing and spectacular in action, and this is a worthy winner in our ranking.
