Earlier this month, Michael Barbieri (The Dark Tower) was added to the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming. No character details were revealed at the time, but one site claimed that he would be playing new character based on Ganke, the best friend of Miles Morales. Needless to say, this quickly led Sony and Marvel Studios being accused of whitewashing, but everyone jumped the gun.

As you can see from the Tweet below, the reboot's director Jon Watts has made it clear that Barbieri most definitely isn't going to be linked to Ganke, so we're officially back to not knowing who he is.

Who will he end up playing? We're going to have to wait and see, but with any luck, Marvel will lock the Spider-Man: Homecoming cast down soon so we can get a full cast list of characters. If Sony brings the movie to Comic-Con next month, chances are we'll hear something then, but for now, at least we know for sure that Barbieri is neither Ganke nor someone based on him in any way, shape, or form!
