The Amazing Spiderman hasn't even hit theaters yet and the sequel is already in the works. I guess this franchise is a "can't miss" most of the time, but seems pretty premature. However, according to Comicbookresources.com and Hollywoodreporter, Sony has already started molding the Amazing SpiderMan sequel and has hired writing team Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. If you look up their cred, it’s pretty good considering they worked on the Star Trek reboot which was pretty "amazing" in its own right. There isn't much yet about the story line, but director Marc Webb did mention he is interested in playing with the details of the origin story across multiple films. I can't say that sounds very appealing to this Spidey fan considering we have seen the origin story beat to death lately, but maybe there will be a fresh spin on it. Is it too soon to talk sequel when a successful reboot hasn't been proven yet?

This is common practice among films now. The Hangover sequel was greenlit months before it ever came out to (let's hope this doesn't end up that way)

@JKM yeah, they started filming SM 2 when the DVD's were being released in November '02. So they started writing that thing well before that.

They have to make it soon or Andrew Garfield will grow older which is one factor that can kill this whole thing.

Considering that the first film rushed through the origin in the first half of the movie and this film will explore the origin dealing with his parents over several films, why wouldn't it be a fresh spin? It's not like they're hold off uncle ben's death until the second film.

I say this is an excellent opportunity to start brainstorming ideas for sequels, because we all know that there are going to be sequels. Spiderman is Spiderman. Comic fans and average people alike are going to come see Spidey's epic return to the "silver" screen. I personally want to see some different villains. Webb has already set that up starting off with the Lizard. And it's even better news knowing he survives. I personally want to see Electro in the "Sensational Spiderman" and the Goblin in the third film. That will be, for me, the ultimate Spiderman trilogy.
