UPDATE: Marisa Tomei Joins The Cast Of Marvel's SPIDER-MAN As 'Aunt May'
Following the news that Tom Holland will play Spider-Man, it's been revealed today that Marvel and Sony have chosen Marisa Tomei to play Peter Parker's Aunt May, which is interesting.
Variety reports that Marvel and Sony have chosen Marisa Tomei to play Peter Parker's Aunt May in Spider-Man. While the deal isn't in place just yet, it definitely sounds like it will happen, and this is a very interesting and unexpected decision. At first glace, it seems like she's too young to play the character, but bear in mind that Tom Holland's Spidey will be around 15 or 16, and Tomei is 50.
There are obviously no details about what kind of role she'll play in the movie at this point, but the site has an interesting update on what's happening behind the scenes. Marvel and Sony are apparently looking for a writer to work alongside director Jon Watts, but are currently looking to prioritise finding a cast they can sign up for multiple movies before production starts next year. Tomei isn't expected to show up in Captain America: Civil War, but Holland still is. What do you guys think about this casting decision? As always, let us know your thoughts in the usual place!
UPDATE: Here's an interesting addition to the story. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that, "Contrary to other reporters, THR hears that Tomei's Aunt May may be making her first appearance in Marvel and Disney's Captain America: Civil War. Holland's Peter Parker is also expected to cameo that in the 2016 film." It'll be fun to see how that ends up playing out...
