Sony's Animated SPIDER-MAN Film Gets New Release Date

Sony's Animated SPIDER-MAN Film Gets New Release Date

Sony is planning an animated Spider-Man film. Initially given a release date of July 20, 2018 the film has been pushed back for a release during the Holiday Season of that year.

The animated Spider-Man film from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie, 21 and 22 Jump Street) has been pushed back from its original, Summer 2018 release date. The film will now arrive in theaters on December 21, 2018. Sony Chairman Tom Rothman already confirmed that the animated feature will exist in a separate universe from what's occurring with Tom Holland in the MCU.  Lord & Miller are confirmed to right the treatment and direct the animated Spider-Man adventure but someone else will hammer out the details of the script.

Of course, the shift in release date could simply be because Lord & Miller are arguably the most in-demand writers in Hollywood. In addition to the animated Spider-Man film, they're currently working on the script for The Flash, the Han Solo prequel film, a sequel to The Lego Movie and 23 Jump Street.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This will always be the greatest, animated version of Spider-Man.

How about......................don't make it at all? Phil Lord and Chris Miller are awesome but I'd rather see them take on an actual live action version, maybe do a sequel if Jon watts isn't up for it. Or maybe Jon just doesn't do the character justice(hope that doesn't happen) and they pop up for a sequel. This is completely unnecessary and is over saturating Spidey in the first place.

Spectacular Spider-man is the best animated spider-man show. Very little room for debate there in my opinion.

Am I the only one who wishes they'd just make a good animated series instead?

December eh?

Guess Sony thinks Spidey can have the same success as Star Wars has had that month.

I mean, this comes out a year after the MCU spiderman, does anyone think this is even going to do well at the box office? Sony must be crazy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought they decided not to make the Flash script.

As for this news I'm okay with it. This will be a great way to end the year.

@MarkJulian I agree, this show is the best Spider-Man series(despite the bad editing in later seasons). This show(along with the Maximum Carnage game) got me into Spider-Man & Superheroes in general

It's quite sad that the animated movie has better writers than the live action one. Feige, you suck!

I trust Sony with animated Spider-Man all the way. They made the best one yet.

I'm not the only one who prefers SPIDER-MAN TAS over SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN!!! That's awesome.

As for the animated film itself, I want to be hyped but I have to keep my expectations on a leash since Avi Arad and Matt Tomach are producing.

I still think there needs to be a series of animated films from Marvel Studios, called "Marvel Comics Classics."

Start with the ORIGINAL story lines, and tell narratives from the early comics for our favorite superheroes.

And do cross-overs all OVER the place, just like in the comics. Have the Fantastic Four run across the Silver Surfer, Namor AND the Inhumans. Give us an original Defenders line-up (Dr Strange, Silver Surfer, Hulk, and
Namor!). Give us an EPIC story arc with Iron Man and The Mandarin. Give us some REAL X-Men from the comics.

And make it different from the MCU. Make it CANON.

Come on. These days, animation costs would be SO low. You could do something phenomenal for the cost of an arthouse movie, and release them in the slow movie periods, not competing, but filling in the gaps between the big budget live-action releases.

I REALLY think it would be a GREAT idea.
