TASM Actor Andrew Garfield On If He Would Appear In The SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Sequel

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a surprise hit last year and regarded by many fans as one of the best Spider-Man stories to hit the big screen. Of course, there have been many incarnations of the web-slinger in Hollywood and one of them, Andrew Garfield who played Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man movies, has offered his thoughts on the animated film.

"I loved it," Garfield said in The Empire Film Podcast this week. "I thought it was what Spider-Man should be; wildly inventive, true to not just one but several versions of the character and the comics. And for everybody. And Funny. And irreverent. And creative. And I think maybe you can only really do that with animation. They could take more risks. I was envious."

By now, you're probably well aware that Into the Spider-Verse featured all sorts of cameos from the comic book and cartoon versions of the popular wall-crawler. Co-director Rodney Rothman even revealed that they had a scene written in which all three live-action Spider-Man actors (Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland) appeared on screen at the same time. It never made it into the final script, but with a sequel already on the way, there's still a chance we could get something like that.

Garfield was asked about appearing in the first movie as well as the possibility of swinging into a sequel if they decided to get that meta with the different universes.

"I'm forever a Spider-Man fan. I'm never going to compute that I got to play that part for two movies. I wasn't talked to about it, but I'm... we'll see," he said, adding, "To be honest, I'm really happy just being a fan again."

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. Spider-Man™: Into the Spider-Verse introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is now available digitally and will release on Blu-ray March 19.

That would be fun, but I get the feeling he burned some bridges at Sony.

The sequel should be live action to be honest. I know that'll probably never happen but I think there's hope given the success of the "Spider-Verse" concept.

The only version I NEED to see in the sequel is Supaida Man.

The scripts for the TASM movies did this guy no justice, he needs at least one more opportunity to really shine as the webslinger.

I feel bad for him. Next to Affleck, he has the most unfortunate run in the CBM genre. Gets to play his favorite superhero, but the movies he starred in were made for the wrong reason so in turn they flopped. I hope the MCU gives him another chance.

Give him a role in the MCU as a substitute teacher for Peter Parker

I never blamed Andrew for the ASM films and I would like to see him get some comic book role redemption in the future .

I wouldn’t mind a live-action Spider-Verse movie either with this guy in it

@Superspecialawesomeguy - his Spider-Man is about the story of Peter Parker

I noticed an annoying continuity error in Spider-Verse though. The screen says the film takes place on Earth 1610 but we know that can't be the case because there are differences between this world and the Ultimate universe. I guess it was just an easter egg and not an accurate earth designation?
