Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a surprise hit last year and regarded by many fans as one of the best
Spider-Man stories to hit the big screen. Of course, there have been many incarnations of the web-slinger in Hollywood and one of them, Andrew Garfield who played Peter Parker in
The Amazing Spider-Man movies, has offered his thoughts on the animated film.
"I loved it," Garfield said in
The Empire Film Podcast this week.
"I thought it was what Spider-Man should be; wildly inventive, true to not just one but several versions of the character and the comics. And for everybody. And Funny. And irreverent. And creative. And I think maybe you can only really do that with animation. They could take more risks. I was envious."
By now, you're probably well aware that Into the Spider-Verse featured all sorts of cameos from the comic book and cartoon versions of the popular wall-crawler. Co-director Rodney Rothman even
revealed that they had a scene written in which all three live-action Spider-Man actors (Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland) appeared on screen at the same time. It never made it into the final script, but with a sequel already on the way, there's still a chance we could get something like that.
Garfield was asked about appearing in the first movie as well as the possibility of swinging into a sequel if they decided to get that meta with the different universes.
"I'm forever a Spider-Man fan. I'm never going to compute that I got to play that part for two movies. I wasn't talked to about it, but I'm... we'll see," he said, adding,
"To be honest, I'm really happy just being a fan again."
