Rebooting Green Goblin

Rebooting Green Goblin

With Emma Stone studying the Death of Gwen Stacy, makes me ponder whether or not Marc Webb will try and reboot the Green Goblin.

You all know the story of Norman Osborne, owner of head corporation OSCORP, and his fall into insanity turning him into the Green Goblin. Now with Marc Webb directing the new Spider-Man flick, casting the gorgeous Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy seems too good to be true. In a recent interview Emma Stone tells us that she's been studying the role by reading "The Death of the Stacys". That might have been a leak that Marc Webb plans on killing off Gwen, as they did in the original "Amazing Spider-Man" series. If that's the case then MORE THAN LIKELY Marc Webb is going to bring back the Green Goblin to do this evil deed. The thing that scares me though is the slim chance that he might use the Lizard to kill Gwen. If they do kill Gwen (which I think we all want to see) we've gotta see the Goblin do it. Dennis Leary was casted as Captain Stacy and Doctor Octopus is the one who ended up killing him, but I wouldn't mind seeing the Lizard do it instead, simply because his death wasn't AS important as Gwen's. Not saying his death wasn't a big deal, but it wouldn't be a drastic change. What I like to think that they're going to do is have the Lizard kill Captain Stacy, and if the movie does as well as I like to think it'll do, then they'll make a sequel and bring the Green Goblin into the mix, and have him responsible for Gwen Stacy's death.

I've looked around and tried thinking about who would be a great Norman Osborne for the reboot, which is a lot harder than it sounds, just because William Dafoe did a miraculous job as Green Goblin. He captured the creepiness and fear of the Goblin better than any actor that comes to mind, but if it came down to it and I had to pick the new Norman, I would say Christian Slater. He can be just as frightening and uncanny as Dafoe was, he's got the eerie smile, and I believe he would fit the part amazingly. What I would like to see is Marc Webb use the original Green Goblin look instead of the whole tech look he had in the first Spider-Man films. They would have to be somewhat upgraded just because I don't think a purple pointy hat and a brown man purse isn't as badass as it was in the 60's.

This is one of the original costume ideas they had for the Green Goblin in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man before they chose the Goblin suit we ended up getting. It's got the robotic look, but still manages to maintain the original Green Goblin feel. If they went with something like that then I think we would get that breathtaking and scary Spider-Man foe we all want to see.
