Yesterday, some intriguing new details about Marvel Studios' plans for Spider-Man 4 found their way online. You can find those by clicking here, but the rumour mill has just churned out a few additional plot beats.
The first comes our way from The Cosmic Circus' @AlexFromCC; confirming Wilson Fisk is New York City's Mayor, the scooper claims that the former Kingpin of Crime outlaws "vigilantism" in New York City and targets street-level do-gooders like Spider-Man and Daredevil.
However, in order to take them down, Mayor Fisk "establishes a bounty hunt for these heroes where several villains pop in for their shot at taking down Spidey [and Daredevil]."
We'd be shocked if Scorpion isn't among the villains who target Spidey, while The Vulture has been rumoured to make an appearance as well. In terms of the heroes we'll see, though, leaker @Cryptic4KQual claims Kate Bishop, Jessica Jones, and Echo are all currently expected to appear in the Spider-Man: No Way Home follow-up.
After the last movie brought back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, it seems Marvel Studios will continue making this franchise - and the stakes Peter Parker faces - bigger and bigger, even in a street-level adventure. All the teenager has left is Spider-Man after the world forgot him, so it's no great surprise he'd take the fight to Fisk when the villain attempts to take that from him.
It's unclear what the future holds in store for the MCU's Spider-Man, though there are plenty of rumours which suggest he'll be a central figure in the next two Avengers movies. Back in 2021, we asked Holland how he'd feel about playing the web-slinger in Fantastic Four (back when Jon Watts was still attached to direct).
"I think, for me, as the guy that plays Spider-Man - so you could say that I know him the best - I think what’s important is that he needs to take a break," the actor said. "We need to allow the audience to let him breathe and figure out tonally how we’re going to bring this character back, if we bring this character back."
"You know, I think him popping up for a cameo would defeat the purpose. While I’d love to be in that film [because] I love Jon and would be really excited to see what he does with the Fantastic Four, I think what we need to do with Spider-Man is let it breathe and almost let the audience tell us what they want."
Spider-Man 4 is unlikely to be released before 2025/2026, but keep checking back here for the latest updates as we have them.
