Marvel's Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4 is without a doubt not just the greatest Spider-Man game of all-time, but it's also arguably the best superhero game of all-time. Insomniac Games certainly have outdone themselves, & Sony Interactive Entertainment knew they made the right decision to have them develop the critically-acclaimed title, so much so that SIE finally acquired Insomniac in August of 2019. With that in mind, a sequel is no doubt currently in development for the upcoming PlayStation 5 console, but when will we finally hear about it? Well, according to an alleged leak courtesy of redditor u/UtopianThrowaway90, it may not be too much longer.
Keep in mind, this is all just a rumor, as neither Marvel, Sony, or Insomniac have confirmed a release date. But, considering that the first game sold a whopping 13.2 million copies worldwide, it's a no-brainer that thanks to Sony's acquisition, Insomniac possibly now has even more resources than before that will likely help to get the sequel out faster for next year.
-
Holiday 2021 release date, probably September like PS4 Spider-Man was
-
Reveal this Summer
-
No online co-op. Completely single-player
-
Queens & Brooklyn will be included with pre-existing NYC from the first game. Will feature new gameplay mechanics to facilitate the low building traversal.
-
Set during Winter, approx a few months after the first game. Peter is still mourning the death of Aunt May & constantly reminds himself of what happened. MJ & him live together, but she's away for the entire first act.
-
Oscorp is attempting to clone certain DNA to build super soldiers. Goes wrong. New villains spawn from this.
-
Harry Osborn will become Venom, but it's a unique take on the character.
-
Carnage & Mysterio are in the game.
-
Eddie Brock is in the game & a major character.
-
Miles is playable in sections of the game. They're still unsure whether to let the player free-roam as him but it isn't being thrown out completely just yet.
-
Think Arkham Knight's system where you could switch to the other Bat-Family characters in certain situations. Same thing here. Not very original, but it is fun
-
A new "Web Chain" mechanic where you can basically chain together web "zips", so when you reach a point, he immediately zips to the next & so on. (So, Web Rush?)
-
Web-Swinging has been overhauled. They've gone all-out on the animation tech this time, so we won't see the same animation as much; more variety, & not only are they bringing the animations from PS4 over for the swing releases, they're adding MANY, MANY, MANY more. They have like two animators devoted completely & solely to the web release animations throughout the entire development cycle.
-
There will be three swing modes: Realistic, Arcade, & Hybrid. (Naming not final). Realistic is very Spider-Man 2-esque in that it's just pure physics. Arcade is a little "fake" assistance. & Hybrid is a merge of the two, basically PS4's swinging.
Do you think this leak holds any weight? Or do you think it's all crap, crap, & megacrap? We'll just have to wait & see. Let us know your thoughts the usual place!
