@DrDoom thats a pretty bold and stupid statement to make there buddy, ive been reading spider-man since i was 4 years old, 16 years of reading comic, encyclopedias, watching cartoons, watching the movies, even making my own spider-man costume from scratch, i can say that although garfield isn't my favourite spider-man (that would be a tie between josh keaton and NPH) he is definitely my favourite live action spider-man and he is the closest to what an actual teen would be in this day and age, considering i was one, i know what he goes through, different versions of peter parker exist and this one is still the same character at his core and that is the most important thing when bringing a character from a comic to film. He has the core of being a teen spider-man down pat. Just because we don't agree with you doesn't mean we "know nothing about Spider-Man"

@drdoom

Please tell me more about how I know nothing about Spider-Man.

Let me guess, you have all the animated show variants on DVD, all 50 years worth of ASM comics bagged and boarded, you have had lived for 50 years and therefore can speak to the pop culture evolution of the character, wrote a publication that presented a balanced thesis on the renaissance character archetypes of Peter Parker...oh and you most definitely at very least must have had an educated discussion with one if the dozens of SM writers that boasts your credibility on the subject of how and why Peter Parker is represented the way he is represented in different stories. You couldn't possibly be bashing a professional actor and academically trained thespian who's sole profession is to case-study a majority of the above that I have mentioned and deliver it to through a performance that will be viewed not by hundreds or thousands but by millions of people and forever accessible for generations to come. You couldn't possibly be doing that because that would be almost I don't know...immature.

i don't mind if doom hates tasm, i don't mind if he thinks its a terrible representation of the character, you are right MightyZeus he is entitled to his opinion, but really, you can't just say "oh if you disagree with me you don't get spider-man" that is just a really bold statement, sure, if i was saying things like "EVERY OTHER VERSION OF SPIDER-MAN SUCKS" including the original comic, then i could see where your coming from, people like that are stupid, they don't get spider-man, but that doesn't apply to everybody that likes garfields version of the character. For me as long as the movie is good and the character changes fit the story then changes from the source are fine, thats why im fine with the changes to tasm, sure he is different from say 1960s peter, but of course he would be, teens don't act that way anymore, and even if they have a sense of responsibility will shirk it off every once and a while, thats how teens are, so sure pete may not be as responsible as he was in the 60s but i think thats what these movies are going to do, to have him grow into that responsible person he is in the comics, it just takes more then just uncle bens death to do it this time thats all.

Anyone critiquing this portrayal of Spider-man should really listen to this review which evaluates that the main flaw of Spider-man is that he is never responsible. When you realise just how immature, self absorbed and stupid the character really is then you'll be much more acceptant of Garfield's portrayal of the character and realise that Marc Webb is actually being incredibly faithful to the source material.

For example - Rhino was first introduced in a comic that featured the first official appearance of Mary Jane Watson - which inspired The Amazing Spider-man 2 to feature Mary Jane until they cut her due to listening to the fans.

Anyway - listen to the review and then feel free to tell me how "He's nothing like Spider-man"

@DrDoom hey man, i understand that feeling, ive had it with plenty of spider-man related things, Spider-Man Reign, Sins Past, Spider-Man Chapter One, and the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, i just respectfully disagree when it comes to this, so lets just hug it out and wait for Tasm 2 to come out, see if either of our opinions change. With no bad blood.

ok, i really like andrew as peter ,i find him to be much better then tobey, the raimi films i have always thought were alright barring the third which is just bad, now this is a different take on peter,its a different universe and its fine if some people dont like this peter or if some dont care for tobeys peter, this is the spiderman for today,he is not a nerd, he was mainly a loner,a social outcast, a guy with a chip on his shoulder which he sort of was in amazing fantasy 15, he even goes like someday i will show them, sure, he was a nerd but a nerd for the 60s plus nerds and geeks are cool these days and we basically rule the world so he is a loner, also THIS peter never got the "with great power comes great responsibility line" it was something similar, it was on the lines if u had the power to help people, you have the moral obligation to do it and that uncle ben who is a blue collar, not that educated man would say something like that and so this spiderman follows that rule, he is helping people,sure is he cocky yeah,he is getting the job done but it looks like this movie is about tearing him down and himpaying for being so cocky so yeah..im in

@Steelers4190
That is not a reason to respect Garfield! I can guarantee you that he would not go to Comic Con (or any other comic book convention) as a fan. Obviously he went because he was cast in TAS-M, and he claimed to be a fan. He said that he had wanted to go but that does not mean that it is true. I am not saying that he did not have a slight interest in comic books or Spider-Man, I am just saying that he is nowhere near a genuine fan. If he had been cast as Superman (just bear with me), he would have said that he was a big fan of Superman. Clearly, he has never had any decent amount of respect for Spider-Man considering that he suggested that Mary Jane should be a MAN AND BLACK and making Peter Parker bisexual. Joke or not, he clearly has no respect for Spider-Man and the characters.
