"You know I'm insecure about my geek bonafides which I've been trying to improve in recent years. (Heck, I grew up never reading a single comic book.) But I'm aware that the internet has been afloat with "Spider-Man 4" casting rumors in recent days. While Sony Pictures insists no decisions have been made, sources tell me that the producers have approached Anne Hathaway to star in the film. Maybe you experts have an idea whom she'll play? All I know is that she's wanted for a starring role, and she won't replace Kirsten Dunst who's also cast. UPDATE: You readers think the role is The Black Cat."

I wonder whom she'll be.



Twitter's MarvelScoop, who has previously given us dead-on info regarding Marvel movie news, just released this tidbit:

"Exclusive scoop: Anne Hathaway will play 'Valeria' in the next SPIDERMAN"

Maybe some of you Spider-Man historians can shed light on who this character could be.

The only one that comes to mind is Valeria, the daughter of Reed (or was it Doom) and Sue Richards. Since the FF movie rights are owned by Fox and not Sony, I see that as very unlikely.

It could also follow along the lines of the previously leaked plot (I'm sure you all remember that one) regarding the Vulture taking over the Daily Bugle and his daughter becoming the Black Cat.

Well at least this rumor is better than Julia Styles. I suppose she could work but they have to get the hair right.

I don't know.There are plenty of female Spider-Man characters out there.She's okay looking.Cute at best.No way is she attractive/sexy enough for Black Cat.

Yeah, Charlize Theron would be good for the role, but she's too old.Even though she's the same age as Maguire, I don't think I could believe her as a character in her early 20's.Someone along those lines, though.A really sexy woman who can also act.

i dont know if anyone has thought of this.
because i know that she is mainly an avenger and rarley goes solo.
but since disney bought marvel and owns the rights to her character maybe we'll see some major crossover action with spidey and the avengers.
not to mention she actually looks the part if she puts on a bit more muscle.
and she is not a bad actress herself.

@prototype : I promise you man , I've been saying the same thing . Anne Hathaway for Black Cat . She's a very good actress and she is gorgeous enough as well . Keep it real , she is a very attractive woman . She's gonna rock that costume .

There's been times when people have "boo"ed down some women that, although somewhat plain in someways, were mildly attractive in others. I could just see that spark of beauty about them in some instances.

This is not one of those moments.

I don't see the dogged appeal that Hathway has to some guys. She's feminine and not ugly. I'll give her that. But she does not scream "BOMBSHELL" as would...anyone else.

I agree.I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.Some people see her as beautiful, but I think she's barely the girl next door.She's like the meek, less attractive best friend.Anne Hathaway as a femme fatale?That's really a stretch.

i like anne she is pretty hot, but i think a good girl for the role would be jennifer love hewitt maybe she has the body, hey lets look at a huge star like angelina joe lee but you guys are realistic she makes her own movies and makes more then this movie could offer.
or the red head from GI joes, she would be great.

She's definatally totaly wrong for black cat. She doesn't have the curves. Black cat is a woman, not a girl (although Hattaway is the same age as Tobey).
@game, Jennifer love hewitt does have the body, but does she have the acting skills?

btw guys, do you think it's ah good idea if nick fury shows up in the end...like you know..heh heh.. i know spidey is not one of the originals(Avengers)...but i would say...it would still fit there great. i think spidey also should show up in the avengers movie. most of all the marvel movies are all compressed in ah way, so why not? ;)

I say she's hot and can do the job of black cat. keep in mind, the black cat doesn't have much character depth and will need CGI/stunts half the time anyway. Plus, while she's in costume, shes wearing a wig, makeup, a catsuit that exaggerates her figure and domino mask so it doesn't take miss america to play this role... Still, I think Elisha Cuthbert was the most spot on CBM fancast so far.

Hathaway is a classy lady and a decent actress. As for who she would play, I doubt it would be BC, but who knows?

Valeria- The only info I can find is on Wikipedia, so munch this down with a bag of salt:

"Valeria von Doom first appeared during writer Chris Claremont and artist Salvador Larroca's run on Fantastic Four, suddenly materializing in the Fantastic Four's headquarters, professing to be from the future, and the daughter of Doctor Doom (Victor von Doom) and the Invisible Woman. This was very disturbing to the Fantastic Four, but after an initial period of conflict, the Invisible Woman accepted Valeria into the FF's home, and she aided them on several missions."

That's the only info on a "Valeria" in the Marvel Universe. I know it's a stretch, and I'm not a Spiderman reader, but could Spidey be going up against Doom? Who owns the rights to Doom?

Valeria? I'm a massive Spidey fan, know nearly everything about his history and I've never heard of her, it's probably an original character. I'd be laughing my ass off if it was Conner's daughter and Conner's introduces Pete to her and they start yet another love story because that's the kinda sh!t Rami will pull.

I would be tempted to say its just a small part like the girl who plays the daughter of Peter's landlord for example, but Hathaway is a big name so a small role like that seems unlikely...maybe Connors wife if they're using The Lizard!? They gave Dock Ock a wife!!

Valeria is probably either an original character or perhaps a codename for Felicia or something like that. Or maybe the source is just wrong. I know its suppossed to be good, but that doesnt mean its perfect.

I gotta say, this is looking like Hathaway is going to be Black Cat. But instead of the traditional Felicia Hardy, she could likely be Toomes' daughter. There's no other reason to cast a big-name actress into the fold this early unless they have big plans for her. Black cat is the only major role i can think of her portraying
