John Malkovich Was Going To Be The Vulture

The actor confirms the role he was to play in Spider-Man 4 and speculates why the movie never happened.

That's right, if Spider-Man 4 had happened, John Malkovich would have been The Vulture up against Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man. It seems he thought he might have been part of the problem as to why the movie got derailed after many fanboys (and fangirls) criticized the questionable villain for the movie.

“Well, I think a lot of the people who sort of follow that genre… I’m not sure, I never really spoke with Sam about this, but I’m not sure they — maybe the kind of fanbase, the fanboys — either didn’t approve of that character as an adversary for him to some extent…or maybe the studio. Or maybe that was totally unrelated to why it fell apart.”

Malkovich was very familiar with the production as he had been originally offered the role of Green Goblin and was disappointed how things went.

It's Leee's fault the franchise got cancelled. Roflmao!

All that moaning about "Vulture's shit! Gotta be the Lizard and Kraven!!!"

The reboot is all because of you Leee.

This has made my day. :D

i'd prefer to leave the goblins out of this reboot altogether. i think we saw enough of them in the first 3 movies.
i'd like to see rhino, scorpion, venom, and shocker in the rebooted movies.
RinjoClans
RinjoClans - 4/16/2010, 10:05 AM
Vulture is up there with Rhino, good for the first level of a spider-man videogame, but would NEVER work through an entire movie

i thought it was a cool idea. it would have been entirely different from the rest of the spiderman movies. plus giving raimi the freedom like he had in the first 2 films would have easily made sm4 a success.

dancingmonkey08 - 4/16/2010, 10:17 AM
Oh thanks a lot Malkovich, blame us fanboys you bastard. Oh and does that make all that Vulturess crap true too because if so, maye the reboot is the lesser of two evils. Personally I would have rather if they had continued on from the Raimi trilogy with a new director & someone younger taking over as Spidey for a new trilogy. Spidey could still have been in college. Better than a total reboot

@brazilianbatman
Thats an awesome idea, make the Green Goblin as the villain behind everything at the end of the trilogy, then they can always turn Harry into the Goblin in a second trilogy

The Vulture could have been a great villain and having Malkovich play him would have been made it work.
DogsOfWar
DogsOfWar - 4/16/2010, 10:21 AM
I would have liked to see Malkovich play Vulture. However, I would not like to see Vulture be the main villain, in any Spidey movie.

I don't love or hate the Vulture as a villian. The character is a little boring. One thing's for sure though, Malkovitch would of owned in that role.

I don't understand why they are not making a spiderman 4??? yeah ok they mucked up spiderman 3 but so many people want to see a spidey 4, but they just want to see it done right! As for vulture, I think the villain should have been lizard and have krazen in the scene.

@Dogs- I agree. I don't mind Vulture, but not for the main villain of the movie. That, and some made up chick vulture...

Yeah, the fourth movie would have sucked I'm sure. Malkovich isn't blaming anyone, if you read his quote he's just throwing out possible reasons, he doesn't have a f^cking clue why, hence his indecisive answer.
Ryden
Ryden - 4/16/2010, 10:30 AM
Yeah I personally don't mind Vulture, I think he's good as a secondary villain but it was the Vultress and Black Cat thing, and then they were gonna kill of MJ just fo thes sake of it and stuff..it was just going very much in the Batman and Robin direction. Nothing wrong with Vulture, it was just the general sirection of the movie.

im wondering how much they actually do listen to us or if this is just b.s.

if they do listen to what we say, then why did tobey last as long as he did as spider-man in the first place????

John is so the Vulture it's not even funny. Perfect casting.

- Listen, to all the Metal Heads out there, I've just found out terrible news. The vampire singer of Type-O-Negative, Peter Steele, passed away last night due to heart failure. He was 48. I am in utter tears right now.
niknik
niknik - 4/16/2010, 10:44 AM
I'll say it again: It's absolutely retarded to be rebooting a film franchise after just 9 years.

THAT is the biggest brainfart of all!
BryEL
BryEL - 4/16/2010, 10:45 AM
I'm sorry if that last bit of my comment wasn't related to anything, but other than my band, I have no one else to tell. But, we all know that Nosferatu has had many comics based on him, and Type-O did the score to a new edition of Nosferatu on dvd, so meh.

SraFisher - 4/16/2010, 10:49 AM
you know i coulda seen vulture as spideys 1st villian maybe...but vulture isn't really a main villian in my eyes he coulda been a side villian.

SirJediFrank - 4/16/2010, 10:49 AM
The Vulture would work for a short scene at the beginning of the Rebooth or its sequel:

-Vulture(beaten, lying on a rooftop in Manhattan with the feather-like wings all broken and torn, while Spiderman is covering him with his web):

--"What gives YOU the RIGHT?!! What´s the difference between you and ME!?"

-Spiderman: (walking to the edge of the building, raising his right arm and throwing his web to a nearby falg pole, turns to the Vulture and says):

--"I´m not the one wearing Adult Diapers!"

yeah what a lame villain. if they would have just used the lizard, and either kraven,or carnage it would have been great. but i for one did not want tosee the vulture.he hit the nail on the head.

We are lucky; we will never be able to see such a disaster of a movie. Don’t get me wrong, Malcovick would have been a great Vulture, but the character is not very interesting, I mean his basically an old man that files.

the reboot cant possibly be any better than this cancelled version
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 4/16/2010, 11:16 AM
@ brazilian

"i don't understand why fans don't want a villain that maakes part of spiderman universe"

because Spider-Man has a HUGE gallery of villains to choose from. why would you want an old guy that can fly as the villain??? because thats all he is. he's in his 60's-70's, and he has a suit with wings. there are SO many more villains to use instead of one of the worst ones ever...
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 4/16/2010, 11:18 AM
to people saying the reboot won't be any better. why would you say that?? no one knows ANYTHING about it. you're just hating on it for no reason. if the previews come out and they look terrible, then complain.

i would have loved to see him play the vulture. he does villans so well!!! all you guys that say he would have sucked don't know what sam raimi would have done with him.
Shaman
Shaman - 4/16/2010, 12:33 PM
Wadey09- The fans NEVER wanted a reboot. They ALL wanted a WAY better film than what Raimi had planned. A Vulture Transformer, Vulturess?!?!?! REALLY?!?!?! If that idea wasn't a big "[frick] you" to all us fans that bitched about his third SM film, i don't know what the [frick] it was. It REEKS of self destruct! As if he wanted to be told "uh... no!".

rockstar728- Malkovich wouldn't have sucked, Vulture's concept does. And we know damn well what Raimi had planned and THAT'S what would have sucked!
Wadey09
Wadey09 - 4/16/2010, 12:55 PM
i don't really know the whole story and i have enough faith in Raimi to know that he hopefully wouldn't have put us paying fans through the sheer torture of watching a Vulturess. even if it was Anne Hatheway.
it could have been some sort of crappy misdirection deal like with Michael Bay.
the world may never know!

I would rather have Vulture than the new reboot which will most likely be stupid. WHy don't they just have Lizard and Kraven and get rid of this reboot thing I think it is retarded that they are rebooting something that is good.
