In an official Sony Pictures press release, it was announced that Robert Pattinson (Twilight) will be replacing Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker and Spider-Man in Spider-Man 4.

Amy Pascal has Pattinson signed on for not only Spider-Man 4, but also Spider-Man 5 and a third, undisclosed spin-off film.
So, what did the previously pro-Maguirre director,
Sam Raimi, have to say about the switch?
Raimi:
"Decisions like these are always difficult…Robert is the future of the franchise."
Tobey Maguire could not be reached for comment.
