IMAX Corporation and Columbia Pictures today announced that "Spider-Man 4," will be released to IMAX theatres simultaneously with the film's worldwide release on May 5, 2011.

The IMAX Corporation released these quotes from various execs...

"The last two 'Spider-Man' releases have been available in IMAX theaters, and we're very much looking forward to our return to a wider IMAX theatre network with this exciting new chapter in the continuing adventures of Spider-Man," said Rory Bruer, President, Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures Releasing. "The addition of so many new IMAX locations will give even more fans of Spider-Man an opportunity to experience the action and adventure in a unique way."

"'Spider-Man' continues to be one of the world's most popular motion picture franchises, and we are very excited to include the latest chapter as part of our 2011 slate," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "Our network has grown significantly and we continue to roll-out new theatres virtually every week, giving more moviegoers the opportunity to experience the movie in IMAX."

"We're so excited to once again work with our friends at Columbia Pictures, Sony and Marvel to bring this beloved superhero back to IMAX theatres," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "The 'Spider-Man' franchise has been so important to the growth of our network and fan base over the years and we're certainly looking forward to re-teaming with the entire cast and production team to bring this next chapter to moviegoers worldwide."

Bring it on! I have faith in Raimi and co. The last movie wasn't even the stinker a lot of people make it out to be. Don't get me wrong, it was pretty bad! But it had its moments. Hopefully the next installment rights those big Venom shaped wrongs.

Thanks to Latino Review for the info.

EDITOR NOTE: Variety lists the release date as May 6, 2011.

Aha I think it's dumb to put a release date this early in pre production...there is soooo many variables that effect the movie release date and they push it back and people get pissed off and complain abd yaddi yaddi ya haha

Make sure you go to a REAL IMAX-- the ones in AMC Theaters aren't actual IMAX, they just slap the brand on a pretty standard screen.

I kind of just wish Raimi you do the sinister six and wrap this up. I'm ready for Marvel to have the rights to Spidey and Daredevil back. Those two need to be able to cross over.

I agree with weakmusic. Unless some drastic action is taken, the love story will crowd this movie just like it did in the last two. Maybe the closure in Spider-Man 3 will lighten the romance load in this new film. I hope Raimi realized that this is his last shot. If he screws this one up, Sony and/or Marvel/Disney will give the job to someone else. Let's just hope his replacement doesn't Schumacher it and make it even worse.

Glad to be back.

As for the villians the Doc. still has the VENOM sample at his lab so you can count on Venom coming back. I just hope its someone else. He was just to corny and Venom needs to be darker. You can also count on them to film the 4th and 5th together and maybe crossing paths with other future movies....

lol @ BillyBlack.

Naysaying already? lol Don't you want to at least find out a little more first?

It will be a very long time before we have any indication of what to expect.

SpideyFan1982
SpideyFan1982 - 9/15/2009, 8:17 PM
They have to bring Gwen back, Keep Kraven OUT of any Spidey film, he is the most BORING comicbook character ever created.

Who knows? Maybe Campbell's "Big Part" is that he is now head of the theater and just rehires Mary Jane to be a singer again, but I would like to see Mysterio in Spidey 4 though along with Lizard or Chameleon.
TheNameIsBetty
TheNameIsBetty - 9/15/2009, 8:35 PM
I seriously hope and wish that they stick to the good ol' supervillain vs superhero routine. No Spidey vs. Hell like in Spiderman 3. That movie would have been good if they left Venom out of it! >=(

Either they bring back the Eddie Brock Venom or they move on to something really cool...
antz1104
antz1104 - 9/15/2009, 8:50 PM
Well the 3rd one proved the Batman syndrome by throwing in too many villians and making it suck due to lack of screen time and character development. I say have ONE awesome villian for #4 (Venom) and he's the one that kills Gwen. Then Peter is pissed and kickin' ass by the 2nd half.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 9/16/2009, 8:46 AM
i want lizard. they've played connors up in all the last movies, he deserves to be a major part in this one. and mysterio is kind of a chump, but i would love to see what they would do with his special effects in a movie! i like kraven too! chameleon COULD be cool, but it would just be him pretending to be other people and messing up spidey's image, which has been done to death in these movies. so i vote no chameleon. even if he IS one of spidey's most heinous foes.
