Joe Manganiello On SUICIDE SQUAD 'Deathstroke' Rumors: "Don't Believe The Hype"
Was Joe Manganiello really in talks to play Deathstroke, or any other character in Suicide Squad? Find out after the jump as the True Blood actor responds to recent rumors that he's been replaced.
Before Henry Cavill was cast as Superman in Man of Steel, Joe Manganiello stated that scheduling had prevented him from nabbing the role in the Zack Snyder-directed reboot. Furthermore, the True Blood star had not only expressed interest in playing Batman, but he was also reportedly shortlisted for the role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which evidently went to Ben Affleck.
Therefore, the fact that he almost joined the newly-established DC cinematic universe back then made it seem plausible that Joe Manganiello could be in talks to play Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke in the much-anticipated Suicide Squad now, as rumors have suggested over the past few months.
However, that was before last night when Latino Review reported that Joe Manganiello was out as Deathstroke in Suicide Squad, and that director David Ayer has instead recruited his Fury actor Jim Parrack to play a younger iteration of the Batman supervillain. In response, Manganiello took to Twitter to finally address those Suicide Squad rumors and set the record straight. "To the [Suicide Squad] rumor mill, that's not the character I was in talks for, nor was I replaced by anyone; never signed on" the actor posted, adding a "#DontBelieveTheHype" hashtag. So, there you have it! Which of the many DC supervillains in Suicide Squad do you think Manganiello was really up for?
Directed David Ayer from his screenplay, Suicide Squad stars Will Smith (Deadshot), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Jared Leto (the Joker), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), with Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), and Jessie Eisenberg (Lex Luthor). The film opens August 5, 2016!
