Zack Snyder's Justice League didn't break streaming records when it debuted on HBO Max, but it was a hit for WarnerMedia and sold an awful lot of Blu-rays down the line. It's no wonder, then, that #RestoreTheSnyderVerse continues to make an impact on social media, but for many DC fans, the hope is that Warner Bros. will #ReleaseTheAyerCut of Suicide Squad.
We're no closer to that happening after The Suicide Squad slightly underwhelmed in theaters earlier this year, and Task Force X may now be D.O.A. beyond next January's Peacemaker.
During a recent interview, Joker actor Jared Leto weighed in on the possibility of the "Ayer Cut" - which we know contains a lot more of his performance as the Clown Prince of Crime - being released. "Absolutely! Why not?" the Oscar-winner said of that version of Suicide Squad potentially seeing the light of day. "Why wouldn't they? Why wouldn’t they? I mean, that's what streaming's for, right?"
Later, Ayer - who vowed to stop talking about Suicide Squad earlier this year - weighed in, and seemingly remains keen on his original version of the movie seeing the light of day. Why? Because it would be beneficial to WarnerMedia's shareholders. That's up for debate, though it's a shame Warner Bros. stifled the filmmaker's creative vision to the extent there is a whole different cut floating around.
Would you check out the Suicide Squad Ayer Cut on HBO Max or Blu-ray if it were released?
